Principal's Report
Winter Assessments
We’ve just finished our winter assessments. Students have been a part of these assessments throughout the past month. This data has helped teachers plan for the next steps with their instruction. With some new components of our literacy curriculum, the fall to winter data will be closely monitored to ensure we’re on the right track.
L&C Takeover the REA
41 of our Lion Cubs were a part of the Kids Takeover Event at the Ralph Engelstad Arena on January 13th. Some of the positions students were able to shadow were the newspaper reporters, singers, game officials, equipment managers, TV commentators, cheerleaders, announcers, and Zamboni riders. Thank you to everyone involved. Our Pride was represented incredibly well.
AVID - Year Zero
Lewis and Clark Elementary School has begun the work to be an AVID implementation school. AVID is Advancement Via Individual Determination. Basically, it’s a schoolwide system of best practices that reinforce a variety of approaches to learning to help create opportunities while closing the opportunity gap. Stay tuned for more information as we learn more.
We look forward to seeing you all at our spring family-teacher conferences March 2nd, 3rd, and 7th. If there is anything I can help with, please reach out to the office or email me at lhoheisel160@mygfschools.org. Take care, be safe, and stay warm!

Open Communication
Talking openly and honestly with your kids is one of the most effective ways to support their
behavioral health. Whether it’s everyday topics like friends and school, or more serious topics like substance use, anxiety, or depression, it’s never too early to start the conversation. As your kids grow, your conversations may change, but they will always be centered on keeping them happy, healthy, and safe. Keep your conversations relaxed, friendly, non-judgmental, and genuine. And most importantly, be a good listener. What should I say? Visit www.parentslead.org for more information.
