Course Summary
6 week book study includes 1 face-to-face meeting. Subsequent activities include weekly reading assignments (9 chapters), weekly submission of an action plan based on each chapter and 5 weekly Twitter chats.
Why take this course?
With increasing number of ELs in our classrooms, it is important for ALL adults who work with students to be aware of and use strategies that support ELs.
This IU course will provide educators with strategies that allow EL students access to core curriculum. Participants will gain knowledge of culturally responsive teaching, collaboration, scaffolding, vocabulary instruction and assessment.
We will be using the book by Diane Staeher Fenner & Sydney Snyder, "UNLOCKING ENGLISH LEARNERS' POTENTIAL - STRATEGIES FOR MAKING CONTENT ACCESSIBLE".
Internal University Information:
- 1 Internal University credit will be given to all who successfully complete all course requirements or
- Participants can elect to be paid a training rate of $14 per hour for 16 hours

Important Dates:
April 5 - Kick-off The PDC at Jefferson Junior High 3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m
Books will be distributed & we’ll go over the course expectations, assignments and due dates. We’ll cover Chapter 1 together.
Weekly Readings &Application Activities due on Wednesdays by midnight as follows:
