Un Mensaje de la Directora Sarlos
Dear Parents,
Thanks so much once again for creating Amazing Friendship Day Gatherings for our students at Palisades today!
It was really calm in the building compared to our Winter Celebrations. Those were amazing celebrations as well, but today was even smoother. THANK YOU!!
Thanks to our PTO team who works so hard for our school. They work so hard to help us build community and culture here at Palisades! We would not be where we are as a school without these tireless volunteers. If you would like to be more involved please let me or one of them know. Currently, the PTO has a secretary position open -please reach out if you are interested.
Below is a reminder of our School Gathering Policies.
Classroom School Gathering Policies
*Please send your sign-up genius information to the parent volunteer coordinator through the PTO so that they can check if all the signed-up volunteers have background checks through the district and that all parents in the class are offered the opportunity to volunteer.
* Please refrain from using the staff lounge for prepping for gatherings as we are required to have it be a break area for teachers and therefore it isn't open for entry or use during the day.
* Please prep items in the vestibule on the tables provided instead.
* Please clean up after any messes made in the classroom space and allow time for that.
* Please be mindful of the timeframe and refrain from gathering in the hall spaces for chatting. Our kids are still doing the hard work of school and it is hard to do that when the parents are chatting in the halls and having fun!
* Any food items are required to have ingredients sent home prior to the party via directory spot to ensure all responsible adults receive notification and the option for a substitute item should it be needed. Therefore this information needs to go to PTO and to classroom teachers. This is due to the number of students with food allergies or sensitivities. Additionally, we always have children who are just discovering food allergies or don't eat certain things due to religion.
* For PTO-covered events such as all school events or gatherings in classes the PTO will work to provide an equitable food item for replacement should it be needed. Notification just needs to be given.
* Costumes aren't permitted for children so we ask the responsible adults to be mindful and respectful in their festive attire when attending a gathering in a class.
* Please know how appreciated you are and your work for making our kids' time at Palisades so wonderful, we appreciate you all!!!

New Application for School Volunteers
For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools.
To help streamline compliance with state and school board policies, which require that all volunteers have background checks and knowledge of other board policies -- as well as state-mandated proof of vaccination (or a qualified exemption) -- we are introducing a new all-in-one volunteer application and approval process through ou Raptor Visitor Management System.
Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.
Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements.
Volunteer Application for LOSD
Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers.

Practice Skills at Home with i-Ready Personalized Instruction (My Path)
LOSD has been utilizing iReady as a benchmark assessment in fall, winter and spring. This year, students have also been spending time practicing and learning new skills in reading and math on the instructional side of this platform. Students have the option to engage in My Path from home.
To unlock i-Ready's full potential, students should access 45 minutes of instruction per subject (reading and math) per week. Each student's i-Ready Personalized Instruction (My Path) provides instruction at their individual level, allowing them to practice the skills they need to be successful. If you have any questions about how to access i-Ready Personalized Instruction (My Path) on your student's device, please feel free to contact your teacher.
