The Countdown Begins!
As we wrap up our 5th week of quarter 3, our 51st week from the world we used to know and just one week away from the 1 year mark of the school shutdown, we are finally starting to see some light at the end of this tunnel.
Our elementary scholars are beginning the return process, some of our scholars in our special education program are also returning to Decatur and we are in the planning stages for some in-person small group instruction. We are also happy to report that some of our teachers are starting to receive the vaccine. We are very excited for season 1 sports to begin next week (see below for more information). While the month of March always feels like a really long year, this time it feels just a little more hopeful.
Things move quickly the second half of the year. Daylight saving time begins a week from Sunday, Spring is two weeks away and we can officially start the countdown until Spring Break - it's 4 weeks away. Spring break also marks nearly the end of quarter 3 - it will end on April 13th, just 2 days after we return from break. Do whatever you can now to make sure you are up-to-date with the coursework in your classes so that you can enjoy your time off.
If you do need support in your classes or just want to be in a Zoom with your fellow Gators while you work on your coursework, please come to Gatoraid. We would love to see you there. Information about Gatoraid is included below.
Have a wonderful weekend and remember the words of a former Gator, Dom Cooks-

Transition week: We’re supporting our students, families and staff with a week of transition activities March 8-12, 2021. This is what it will look like:
- Mon., March 8 – Thurs., March 11:Four (4) asynchronous days for all secondary FCP scholars. Scholars will log into Launchpad to Learning and log into to their current Canvas course to participate on these dates.
- Fri., March 12: Synchronous remote day for teachers to meet with their new classes, secondary FCP scholars. This time is dedicated to building connections and community. Scholars will log into Launchpad to Learning using the access information provided by their child’s teacher in an email sent to the parent/guardian’s ParentVUE account.
Safety is a top priority
As we prepare to return to in-person, here are a few important reminders:
- All staff and scholars are required to wear masks at ALL times at our school campus and on the bus.
- Daily health screening attestation and temperature checks must be completed every day for all staff and scholars before they leave for school. Visit fwps.org/healthscreening before your child’s first day of school to understand how to take the online health screening.
- On Wednesday the primary guardian will receive an e-mail from no-reply@fwps.org. Families can choose to opt into text messaging for the daily online health screening notifications. Starting first day of hybrid, for their child, primary guardians will receive daily notices for each child attending school face-to-face. Any parent can fill out the screening via the website or QR code. More information: www.fwps.org/healthscreening
- Social distancing will be practiced in all areas and there will be regular handwashing throughout the day.
- Visitors will not be allowed on campus in order to minimize the number of people on campus.
