Stinson M.S. Principal's Corner
End of 1st Grading Cycle - October 23, 2020
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Students,
It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the month and preparing for the coming fall holiday season. Last year at this time, we were preparing for our annual Fall Fest, and I can honestly tell you that I am missing preparing for this event since it is a time for us to connect as a community, highlight our campus fine arts groups, and just enjoy the company. Rest assured that when the time comes for us to schedule such events, we will do so in the grandest Skyhawk fashion!!
As you work with your students, please keep in mind that they are our daily inspiration. Whether I see them in the hallways, on Zoom, or on the court or field, they bring me joy and hope. I know they are learning during challenging times, and they are overcoming obstacles with your support and guidance. Give them all high fives and hugs from me.
Please read through this newsletter carefully since we have included lots of important information.
May you all be safe and stay Skyhawk Strong!
With Skyhawk Pride,
Lou Medina, Principal
Dress Code Updates
Please review AND follow the guidelines listed below:
SHORTS: Length must be appropriate in length and material. Shorts may not expose any skin between the upper knee and the belt line. Shorts should be secured by a draw string, belt, or other device that ensures the shorts will not fall below the waist line.
LEGGINGS: Leggings should follow the same rules as all other pants/shorts, so no skin between the upper knee and the belt line may be exposed. Material should be an opaque nature, meaning that they should not be sheer in any way at all.
First Quarter Report Cards Available Oct. 23
Academic report cards for the first grading period of the school year will be available in the Home Access Center (HAC) after 4 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 23. Specific directions for accessing report cards can be found on the parent tab of our District website.
Parents are encouraged to review their child's first quarter grades with them and are reminded to reach out to campus staff with any concerns. Specifically, if a child is not being successful in a virtual learning mode, options may exist for an earlier return to in-person learning if sufficient space exists at their home campus.
To log in to HAC or to create an account, visit our HAC Quick Start guide
High School Credit Parent Meeting
A parent informational meeting about high school credit classes has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th at 5:30 p.m. through Zoom. The Zoom link will be shared with parents through an email blast. Please be on the look out for the email. Your student's high school credit teachers will also share the link.
At the meeting, campus administration will be reviewing the differences between a middle school credit class and high school credit class. In addition, they will review the "attendance recovery" process. Time at the end of the session will be given for parents to ask questions about credit requirements.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Daily Health Screen Link
Video on how to access screener from campus website:
Here is the link to a video which shows how to access the health screener from our website:
The health screener can be completed using a phone, an IPAD, or a Chromebook.
Scanning a QR Code- We also have QR codes posted at the front door, and most students know how to do it, but just in case please share this QR code with students and have them walk through how to use their cameras then link to the Health Screener.
Of course, if they cannot scan a QR code, they can go directly to the health screen by entering the following url: https://nisdhealthscreening.nisd.net/?Loc=050.
Message from the School Nurse
Dear Stinson Parents:
We are working hard to keep students and staff as healthy as possible.
- Please help us by assisting your students in answering the daily health screening as accurately as possible. If in doubt, please keep your student home until you speak to the nurse or a school administrator.
- If a student displays symptoms at school or makes a complaint of symptoms to a staff member they are referred to the nurse. The nurse will assess and evaluate the situation and determine if the student will be held in an isolation area until a parent can be reached to pick the student up from school.
- If a student displays a symptom, students and teachers need to be moved to another location to "clean" rooms until disinfection can occur.
- If a student is sent home with any COVID-19 like symptoms please do not send them nor siblings back to school until the NISD return to school criteria is met.
- Students must meet ALL criteria to return to school. If students return before criteria is met they will be sent to an isolation room and parents will be contacted for pick up.
When can my child return to school after having symptoms of, being diagnosed with, and/or testing positive for COVID-19?
After at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, or the date of diagnosis/positive test if the child is asymptomatic.
At least 24 hours have passed since the child had a fever (without fever reducing medications) and the child has had improvement of additional symptoms (cough, etc.)
- If your child suffers from health conditions that mimic COVID-19 like symptoms, for example: seasonal allergies, chronic headaches/migraines, gastroesophageal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, etc please obtain a current medical note for this school year to have on file in the clinic.
We understand that this can be an inconvenience for all involved but it is for the safety and well being of all of our community. If students return to school before the criteria is met the nurse must remain with them in the isolation area, making her not as easily available for other needed situations, additionally custodial staff must perform additional cleaning of classrooms that the uncleared students presented to, and may also cause alarm to students/staff that become aware of the situation.
Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation is most appreciated.
