In Italy the living space is very tight. In mountain areas the houses can be built into the mountains, on top of each other, and in between the mountains. The building materials of houses in Italy are concrete, brick, and stone. Not traditional in our country. Urban Italians have been living in condos and apartments since roman times. Most Italians live in apartments their whole lives they call them houses though not apartments. A lot of them have balconies to be part of them. These are platforms that extend from the main part of the building where people can relax, plant flowers, or simply enjoy themselves.
Some of the wealthier families of Italy own Villas. Usually they are made of brick and painted with a creme or white colored plaster. They often have red tile roofing too.
