Clothes Study
Hello Families:
Beginning this month and February, we will be moving on with the next study, “Clothes,” the introduction of the letters and their sounds, talk about Al and his pals.
A. Clothes Study
As we explore and investigate the clothes study, we will go over the following:
1. What are the features of clothes? ;
2. How do we take care of our clothes? ;
3. How do people make clothes? ;
4. How is cloth made? ;
5. Where do we get our clothes?;
6. What special clothes do people wear to work?;
7. What people wear during each season? (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer)
These are some of the things that will be discussed during the course of the study, and here are some of the things you can do at home:
1. Cut out various pictures of clothes from magazines, put them in a Ziploc bag, and send them to school.
2. Talk with your child about clothes.
3. Discuss how the fabric was made?
4. Discuss how clothes would feel?
5. Look at pictures from the past and note how clothing differs from clothes today.
6. When you shop at the store, notice how clothes are organized in a store and offer a simple explanation of how you compare prices and the type of material they used.

B. Letters
We will also talk about one letter for the whole week, the sound(s) it makes, and words that start with the letter of the week. Here are the letters for this month and February: Aa, Zz, Bb, Mm, Rr, and Cc.
Al's Pals
C. Al's Pals
We are excited to share that our class is using a nationally recognized social and emotional learning program, Al’s Pals: Kids Making Healthy Choices, which will be introduced and discussed twice a week.
Al’s Pals lessons use puppets, engaging songs, and fun activities to help students recognize and understand their feelings, explore positive ways to express their feelings, get along with others, and solve problems.
Here are the lessons for this month and February:
21. Feeling disappointed.
22. Feelings different feelings.
23. Using kind words. Students learn about the importance of using kind words and discuss how words can affect other people’s feelings.
24. Different things annoy different people. Students will learn that different things bother other people.
25. Listen to me, please. Discuss the importance of listening to others and share ways to be a good listener.
26. Excuse me, please. Students learn to wait their turn to talk, when it is appropriate to interrupt someone, and how to do so politely.
27. May I play, too? Students will listen to two stories about children who need help playing with others and discuss ways to ask others to play.
28. Special Me. Students will share what makes their families special.
29. Imaginary gifts. Students will imagine a gift that is unique, special, and valuable to them.
30. Taking care of ourselves. Students will discuss ways to take care of themselves so they can grow healthy and strong.
31. What’s consent? Students will talk about what it means to be in charge of their bodies and practice asking for and giving consent.
32. Secret vs. Surprise.
Homework / Correspondence
Please check your child’s backpack, empty their folders daily, and return the folder back to school.
