Volume 2, Issue 8 - October 5, 2018
Dear Families,
This week we welcomed Detective Tracy Perkins, from the Boone County Sheriff Department Cybercrime Taskforce, to our PTSA meeting to discuss trends of risks students face while online. During the discussion, several parents showed concern about limiting screen time and how to have those conversations in a positive manner. You can find an interesting article HERE about "How to Limit Screen Time Without Conflict." In this post you will learn how you can create a daily routine for your family, how to encourage your students to earn screen time, how to model positive behaviors, how to take a social media break, and more. Read it at your convenience!
From The Nurse
Aside from the flu shot, handwashing (better than hand sanitizers) is the next best way to prevent getting the flu and other illnesses. Frequent hand washing washes away germs that are picked up from other people, contaminated surfaces, and animals.
- Germs enter our bodies when we touch our eyes, nose, and mouth with contaminated hands
- Wash hands before eating, after using the restroom, when hands are dirty, after touching animals, and after sneezing or coughing into hands
- When possible, always try to use the hands free method when coughing or sneezing by coughing or sneezing directly into the crook of your elbow or sleeve instead of your hands
- Proper handwashing is: wet hands with warm water; apply soap; rub hands vigorously over all surfaces for 20 seconds; rinse hands well; dry hands with a paper towel and turn off water with towel
An ounce of prevention keeps the germs away!

If you drive your child to school, please make sure that you respect these times. Students receive consequences if they are late to school or their classes.

Jaguar Rumble Against Cancer
Please mark your calendar for our second annual Jaguar Rumble Against Cancer! This
student-driven fundraiser for cancer research will be held on Friday, October 12th. Our fall Football, Cross Country, Cheerleading, and Volleyball athletes will be having a "friendly" competition on the volleyball court. The game will begin at 2:45 pm and will end at approximately 4 pm with one team claiming victory! Please note that we do not have access to after school activity buses on Fridays. All students will be responsible for securing their own transportation home at the conclusion of this game.
T-shirts will be sold Tuesday, Oct. 9th – Thursday, Oct. 11th before school in front of the main office for $11/shirt. These will be available while supplies last. If you pay by check, please make checks payable to CPS. A sample photo of our shirts is pictured below. Be sure to wear your t-shirt on Friday as this will be your entry fee into the game. Admission at the door will be $5 for those who do not wish to purchase a t-shirt. Please plan to join us for a good cause! Go Jaguars!
Please check out the link below for further information about the foundation that we are supporting.
6th Grade Science Camp
Team 6B has been at Science Camp the last couple of days and they are having a great time. The rest of our 6th grade students will attend camp next week. Our teachers have worked really hard to make this a great experience for the students!
6th grade Science Camp Dates:
October 8th-9th (Team 6A)
October 11th-12th (Team 6C)
Lost & Found
This is a reminder that if your student has misplaced personal items we keep a Lost & Found area in the cafeteria where they can look for them. If the item is valuable, they should check in the main office. We recommend that your student label all their items for easy identification (lunch box, water bottle, coat...) as this will ensure an easier return.
