ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
We are happy to report that we collected 1,800 Food Items for our Annual Food Drive. All of the food items will be donated to the Rehoboth Food Pantry.
The 5th grade was the grade that collected the most food items and Mrs. McPartland's homeroom and Mrs. Sousa's homeroom were the homerooms that collected the most food items. Great job Beckwith!
BRRRR...IT'S GETTING COLD OUTSIDE!
Please remind your student to bring a jacket daily. We will continue to go outside for recess as the weather permits!
CELL PHONE PRIVACY UPDATE AND SOCIAL MEDIA
If you have an iPhone and have downloaded the recent iOS 17 update, Apple has set a new feature called NameDrop defaulted to ON. This feature allows the sharing of your contact info just by bringing your phones close together. To shut this off go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together. Change to OFF.
PARENTS: Don’t forget to change these settings after the update on your children’s phones, also, to help keep them safe as well!
Also, CLICK HERE for Common Sense Education's Family Engagement Toolkit, which includes resources for parents to support healthy media and tech use by students at school and home.
Lastly, CLICK HERE for an article from the American Psychological Association (APA) about "Keeping Teens Safe on Social Media."
The recommendations from the APA are as follows:
1) Recognize developing brains may be especially vulnerable to specific social media features
2) Monitor and discuss your child's social media use
3) Model healthy social media use
4) Watch for problematic social media use
5) Teach social media literacy

PTSA BOOK FAIR
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Beckwith Middle School, December 1-8. Students will be able to preview the Book Fair on 12/1 during the school day. The Book Fair will be open to the public on 12/1 from 5:30-8:30pm during the Winter Craft Fair. Students will be able to shop during the school day on 12/4-12/6 and 12/8. To create an eWallet (cash-free way to shop the fair) visit the Book Fair homepage by clicking HERE.
PTSA WINTER CRAFT FAIR
On Friday, December 1st, Beckwith will be hosting the PTSA's Winter Craft Fair where there will be over thirty Student Shoppe's from Beckwith & Palmer River selling their own handmade items.
Students will also be able to buy some fun, inexpensive items for their friends and family that night at the Gingerbread Holiday Shoppe. Beckwith will not be hosting this shopping experience during the school day this year. Students will need to stop by the Cafeteria that night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and will need to be accompanied by an adult.
DECEMBER LUNCH MENU
MYSCHOOLBUCKS INFORMATION
Account payments can be made through MySchoolBucks.com using a debit/credit card or electronic check. We will also be accepting cash and check payments (CHECK ONLY at Beckwith Middle) at all cafeteria registers. Please make checks payable to “Dighton Rehoboth Regional School District” and include your student’s full name in the memo line.
School meals are once again free (see above); however, all students must use the point of sale system to obtain a free lunch. Please encourage your child to remember their lunch pin number because it helps to move along the lunch lines. If a student forgets their pin, then the cafeteria workers need to look it up and this stalls the lunch line.
Students will need to pay for snacks not included with the free meal and this is the reason why a parent would want to put money on their child's account.

ABSENCE PROCEDURE AND NOTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR FAMILIES AND EMAIL ADDRESS
School attendance and punctuality are closely correlated with success at school. Time in class cannot be replicated by simply giving the absent student the work that was missed. Frequent absences can leave gaps in a student’s education that can affect them for years to come. For more information on Attendances and Absences, please review the Student Handbook.
Please call into the 24/7 Absence Line by the start of the school day (8:15 a.m.) to report your student's absence. Leave a message that states the name of your child and why they will be absent. To reach the absence line call 508-252-5080 and press 1. Alternatively, you may also email the Main Office at bmsattendance@drregional.org by 8:15 a.m. This email address can be used to report your student's absence as well as to report a tardy or dismissal.
Families of students who are marked as having an unexcused absence and who do not call the Absence Line or email the aforementioned email address by 8:15 a.m. will receive a phone call, text message, and email notification from the District to inform them of the student absence. The message will prompt families to call the Main Office to confirm the absence as soon as possible. The timing of the notification will be 9:15 a.m.
All absences are considered unexcused with the exception of the following: student medical appointment/illness/quarantine (with a doctor’s note), bereavement, family emergencies, observance of major religious holidays, weather so inclement as to endanger the health of the child, court appearance, out of school suspension, disability-related absences, and unique circumstances approved at the Principal’s discretion. In instances of chronic or irregular absence reportedly due to illness, the school administration may request a physician's statement certifying such absences to be justifiable.
Please arrange for doctor's notes to be sent to the Main Office via Fax Number at 508-252-5082 or via email at svincelette@drregional.org
