Primary News:
We had a fun-filled week. Paul Taylor from Australia was awesome! We were very lucky to have
this opportunity due to a cancellation in his schedule. He told stories and taught songs from the
aboriginal culture and his Australian/European heritage. He was great with the young children
as well as older students. We all loved him.
Our field trip to the Hotchkiss Fire Station was wonderful! Chris Holder led the tour. He is Addie
and Calvin’s dad and a volunteer fireman. Students sprayed a real fire hose, tried on fireman
boots and climbed in firetrucks! Each child got a fire hat and a fire truck. Be sure to check out
the info on the fire truck. He talked to the children about staying safe if there is a fire. Families
should have a safe place to meet outside the house and practice exiting the house in case of
fire. He informed me that any family that does not have smoke alarms in their home can get
them for free from the fire station. I was proud of our students and their good behavior : )
Thanks Chris!!
Our next field trip will be to Jack and Andrew Holder’s Yak Farm just outside of Crawford on May
17th. The address is 41997 Needle Rock Road, Crawford CO 81415 (yaksmatter.com). We will
take the bus and leave school at 9:15. No car seats are needed. We will use the harnesses for
all Pre K students as we did today. We will eat snack at the farm. Half day students can be
picked up at 11:30. Full day students will eat lunch and return to school about 12:30. Please
send a cold lunch, backpack, water bottle, sun hat and apply sunscreen at home. Sack
lunches can be ordered from school, but our order must be in by Thursday, May 12.
We are getting ready for the Spring Concert with Fran on May 12th. Please send in a pair of
black socks for the concert. Have your child here by 5:45 on May 12th (no sunglasses needed-
we will provide).
I have made the decision to cancel the performance of our play on May 13th. I do not feel like
we are ready and instead of adding stress, I decided to alleviate stress for all. Kindergarten
students will present the play to small groups of students here at school.
Kindergarten graduation ceremony will be held outside on May 25th starting at 9:00am. Parents
of kindergarteners, please sign up to help or bring snack
