Yea! My SMORE account is working again!
A great and busy 2nd week! We had our first fire drill on Wed., and the kids were amazing! I'm so proud of how seriously they took the drill and truly practiced how to evacuate properly. We also had our first PBIS assembly today and Shadow Hawk, our Mascot, helped Ms. Monahan teach appropriate voice levels for assemblies and helped lead "Go Hawks!" I introduced our school song, and Mrs. Clayton talked about Hawk Talons the students can earn and Golden Awards as well. I was really impressed with the appropriate behavior! We will be having a lock down drill later this month.
We don't have final totals for the Glow Golf Tournament yet, but it was a huge success! Thank you to all that worked so hard on this event, especially Kristina Stone and Tracy Sandhagan!
Our next fundraiser is the annual Fund Run which happens on Sept. 27. We are trying something new this year; more classes per session and ending before lunch! MANY volunteers are needed so we'll have a sign up genius coming out soon! Thank you Stacey Wolfe and Arielle Scesa for making this happen!
The North Plains Events Committee is hosting a Casino Night at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course and some of the proceeds are coming to NPES! Thank you to Selena Griffith and Arielle Scesa for helping make this a wonderful event! Here are the details:

The parent information night will need to be rescheduled AGAIN! Glencoe has their back to school night on the 26th, and the district is having an open house regarding the new sexual health curriculum on the 1st of Oct. See below:
All families are invited to attend an open house to preview the District’s Sexual Health and Violence Prevention curriculum on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Event Room at the Brookwood Public Library, 2850 NE Brookwood Pkwy. The open house will include elementary, middle and high school teachers, as well as curriculum samples for each grade level for parents to review. We highly encourage our families to take advantage of the open house to learn more about what we are doing to keep all of our students safe and healthy, and to ask any questions they may have.
I'll put out another date for OUR parent info night soon!
Don't forget the PTO meeting on Sept. 19 at 4:30 PM. We will meet in the library.
Spirit and Pride orders are DUE! Please send them back by Monday so I can get them mailed in. Many of you order online and that is great too.
As you know, many of our classes are really large this year, especially 1st grade, and our 3, 3/4 and 4th grade classes. Last Friday we were given the go ahead to add another teacher and after much thought, and getting multiple perspectives, I've decided to make the following class configurations:
1, 1, 1/2, 2, 2/3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6.
I realize this puts 2nd grade in three places, but with first grade at 34 each and not enough 3rd graders to make 2 straight classes, this is the best I could do. Mrs. Bethune will be teaching a straight 4th grade, so some of Mrs. Ravins' students will be moved to her class. Ms. Underhill will remain with her 2nd graders, and a few of Ms. Jobs, and Ms. Job will keep some of her 2nd graders, take Mrs. Bethune's third graders. I am hiring for the 1/2 split classroom. This is a LOT of change, and I realize it is hard on the students, and usually harder on the parents! Decisions have been made regarding who is moving and who is staying, using a variety of considerations. I will be calling ALL families who have students that will be moving. Please know that I understand this is not the best case scenario, but we have to do what we can with the staff we have, and we have AMAZING teachers here who are used to dealing with last minute changes!
In case you missed it, please join me in thanking board member Martin Granum for our new sign that is out on the front fence! Kara Emberlin drew the new visual for us, it's beautiful!
