100th Day of School at Schoolfield
Our Kindergarten Jaguars celebrated the 100th Day of School by making 100th-day hats and counting to 100 using a hundred chart. Students collaborated and worked together to get to 100!!

Averett to hold event celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day
National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an annual celebration that inspires girls and women to play, be active, and realize their full potential. It has been proven that the confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are vital tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and in life. Averett Athletics will be hosting an afterschool NGWSD Clinic for youth girls, grades 2-8, on February 1. For this event local youth, students have an opportunity to engage with female student athletes from various Averett varsity women’s sport teams. Attendees are also invited to attend the Averett Women’s Basketball game in the Grant Center at 6 p.m., immediately following the event, where they will be recognized at halftime.

Teachers in Action
On Saturday, January 21, 46 teachers and administrators from Woodberry, Johnson, Park Avenue, Gibson, Bonner, and George Washington participated in Science Teachers in Action in Richmond, Virginia. Teachers engaged in sessions including hands on investigations and ways to include formative assessments in their classroom.
Woodberry Lunch and Learn with Board Chair Graves
Woodberry Hills Lunch and Learn on Wednesdays features interviews with positive role models. This week's interview featured Schoolboard Chair Tyquan Graves. Graves shared stories of growing up in Danville, setting goals at an early age, finding inspiration through his grandmother, and choosing to make every day a great day. Students prepared questions ahead of time and were able to come to the microphone to speak to Mr. Graves in the interview forum.
Attention art teachers! It's time for the VSBA Regional Student Art Contest!
School Store at Woodberry
Thursday was the first day of the Woodberry Hills PBIS store. Students have been earning money for the last several weeks, and today they were able to shop. They could buy school supplies, necklaces, bracelets, T-Shirts, Valentines Dance Tickets, etc. One of the kindergarten classrooms used this as a learning opportunity and did a writing assignment after they were done shopping.

Mrs. Bartee's class at Westwood hosted a Principal Appreciation Reception & ALICE Training demonstration this week.
Mentor meeting
On January 18 & 19, the new teachers worked in small groups with our ITRTs on everything technology! During this time teachers had the opportunity to work on their Canvas and learn more about Go Guardian.
Tiger Pride Awards Ceremony at Westwood
On Tuesday, January 24th Westwood Middle School held a Tiger Pride Awards Assembly to present awards to students who made the Superintendent's List, Principal's List, Academic Achievement, Honor Roll, Fitness Test High Scorers, and Exploratory Awards for Outstanding and Most Improved students. We are so proud of our Tiger Scholars!
GW swimming competes in Piedmont District Swim Meet
Congratulations to our Swim team and Coach Robertson for competing in the Piedmont District Tournament on Wednesday. The boys and girls finished 3rd and 5th overall respectfully.

Fifth grade Jaguars think like scientists and mathematicians
Fifth-grade Jaguars at Schoolfield participate in experiments each week to practice investigation of Science topics. The students are involved in real-life simulations using materials in the classroom and online simulations on StemScopes. The students pictured below are investigating SOL 5.4b which covers circuits and electricity. 5th- grade Jaguars also use manipulatives to start learning Math topics using the CRA model (Concrete, Representational, Abstract). Below students are determining if numbers are building objects to represent area and perimeter (SOL 5.8).
Teacher Wellness Club at Schoolfield
Teacher Jaguars at Schoolfield participated in their monthly Wellness Club hosted by Ms.Morgan Ouzts, Art Teacher. Teachers made lanyards with many different beads of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Teachers have been wearing their lanyards this week at school. It was a great time to relax and enjoy fellowship amongst colleagues.
