Reading Books and Loving our Library!
Although we had one week off that didn't stop us from reading and learning this November! Students took on the Turkey reading challenge, participated in Makerspace, and checked out lots of books. Take a look at what we did below and stay tuned to see everything we do in December. Hour of Code is coming and we can't wait!
Pumpkins, Reading, and Engineers
PAWS for Service Reading Buddy
Gus is loving reading on the new comfy furniture!
Kinder Pumpkin Makerspace
We read Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins then students created different fences strong enough to hold 5 pumpkins.
Welcome Back Pape Dawson Mentors
It's nice to see engineers in the library for the 17-18 school year.
Veteran's Day Parade
Red, White, and Blue
Our school hallways were filled with red, white, and blue.
Coming Together
Before our Veteran's Day Parade, veterans and students enjoyed some time together in the library.
Breakfast with our Veterans
Students were so excited to honor their loved ones for their service.
November themed Makerspace
It has a roof!
This student made sure their pilgrims had a roof even though it was tricky manipulating the pipe cleaners.
Protect the Pilgrims
Students were eager to participate in the STEM challenge where they created different structures strong enough to protect their little pilgrims.
Challenge: Limited Resources
Pilgrims didn't have nearly as many resources as we do today, so students were limited to only a few materials.
Robotics Club Clinic at Madison High School
Ms. Sanchez and Mrs. Marks coach these dedicated robotics club members. JK 4th and 5th graders took on the challenge to program EV3 robots to move and pick up various lego hydrodynamics structures in preparation for First Lego League.
Preparing for Hour of Code with Unplugged Activities
We are Coding!
Using a symbol guide, we created codes for our human robots to make a stack of cups.
We're all in this Together
Students chose to work together or on their own. Most students helped each other see if their code was correct or if it needed to be debugged.
It's a something new!
Many students reflected on how it was challenging to code. Life is about facing new challenges.
Reading Victory!
65 students participated in the Thanksgiving Break Reading Challenge!
