I get asked all the time...

"Pilates?? Is it like Yoga?"

No doubt there are similar poses for both practices. However, Pilates focuses more on :

  • Aligning the spine
  • Strengthening the core

In Yoga, core-strengthening is an element in the practice - not the entire focus.

"So which is better? Pilates of Yoga?"

Both have different appeals. But a simple rule of thumb would be:

  • Pilates : Core strengthening, muscle conditioning, back pain relief
  • Yoga : Body conditioning, spiritual, stress relief

"Can I lose this muffin top with Pilates?"

Truth is, your muscles are strengthening and toning while you diligently execute your Pilates routine. Here's the catch though : all those strong muscles are probably not gonna see the light of day if it is buried under a layer of fat. To obliterate the fat, you will need to incorporate SOME cardio activity. And as most of us (ehem, yes I am equally guilty!) can't find the time to do an extra 30 minutes of cardio daily, I have combined the blood-pumping benefits of cardio with the muscle-toning effects of Pilates in ONE class.
