Vison Screening
Our school district is happy to welcome back the Lions Club this year to assist our health team with yearly vision screenings. The Lions Club will visit Woodfield on Thursday, March 9.
4K, 5K and 1st grade students will have their vision checked with the PlusOptix S12 Mobile
Screener. PlusOptix is the world leader in objective vision screening devices. The mobile screener provides immediate and reliable pass/refer screening results and binocular testing of both eyes within 1 second.
2nd-8th grade students will have their vision screen completed using either the PlusOptix
camera or a Snellen chart. If your student passes the screening, you will NOT receive a notification from the school. If your student fails the screening, the school nurse will notify you via email or phone call and guide you on the next steps of the referral process.
If your child wears glasses or contacts, please be sure they have access to them during
the screening process. The Lions Club vision screening is a one day event. If your child is absent from school during the day of the event, please contact the school nurse at pankonin@waterford.k12.wi.us so a Snellen chart screening can be scheduled another time.

Wisconsin Forward Testing
Dear Parents,
Students at Woodfield in grades 3rd through 5th will be participating in the Wisconsin Forward Assessment. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take tests in language arts and math. Our 4th grade students will also take tests in science and social studies.
Our testing window will be open after spring break and close on April 28th. Due to the uniqueness of each grade level's schedule, each grade level will have their own schedule. More information from the classroom teachers will follow.
Since it is important for all children to be here and be at their best, please try to avoid scheduling any activities/appointments that would interfere with your child’s participation in the testing. Please contact your child’s teacher if you believe you may have a conflict. If you have a pre-arranged absence that cannot be avoided, then your child will be able to make up the missed testing section(s). I would also encourage you to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep each night and has a healthy breakfast each morning. The results of these tests are important for each individual student, building and the Waterford Graded School District.

Message from the Principal
Dear Woodfield Families,
Spring will be here soon! I know many staff at Woodfield look forward to spring because they see so much growth in their students. While teachers assess their students regularly to help guide instruction, they also look at the overall growth that students have made throughout the school year. These last few months of school are truly an exciting time because students are reaching their individual learning goals. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please reach out to your child's teacher. We always love an opportunity to celebrate!
Sincerely,
Jessica Grimm

Dear Woodfield Families,
For a summary of the lessons and the highlighted spotlight skill for the month of March, please read the information below.
Kindergarten - We will be reading the book Tattle Tongue by Julia Cook. The students will be able to tell the difference between tattling and telling.
1st Grade-Mean teasing is aggressive behavior. Repeated teasing can turn into bullying. This lesson promotes the norm of respectful behavior and not calling people names while building empathy for students who are teased. Responding effectively can help students reduce the extent to which they are teased.
2nd Grade - Personal Space- We will identify proper personal space in order for others to feel comfortable and stay safe.
3rd Grade In this lesson, students learn how to use positive self-talk to calm themselves during disappointment, a common stressor for children. Positive self-talk can effectively engage the thinking part of the brain in emotional situations, while negative self-talk can escalate emotions and decrease students’ self-control. Students should identify and practice words and phrases that work for them so that positive self-talk comes easily when needed.
4th Grade-Students can create or escalate conflicts when they jump to conclusions about what is behind other students’ actions. This lesson focuses on helping students use emotion-management techniques to keep strong emotions from pushing them into jumping to conclusions about others. Students who calm themselves down are better able to accurately assess others’ intentions. Students can use the Calming-Down Steps to make it less likely they will act impulsively on their emotions. When able to take the next step and assertively ask questions of others, students become better able to understand others’ perspectives and intentions. Calming down strong emotions is also a necessary prerequisite to effective problem solving.Home Link
5th Grade- Students can create or escalate conflicts when they jump to conclusions about what is behind other students’ actions. It is easy to jump to conclusions that create problems unnecessarily. 4k/5k Enrollment is now open
The 2022-2023 school year is well underway and it is time for us to think ahead to the 2023-2024 school year and our NEW 4K/5K students. Things will look a little different this year with enrollment. Rather than in-person enrollment, we will utilize an electronic enrollment process. Please know that if this presents an issue for any family you can contact your child’s home school and the school secretary can help. The information below will give guidance on how the new process will work.
WHO SHOULD ENROLL?
● Any student that will be 4 years old on OR before September 1, 2023
OR
● Any student who will be 5 years old on OR before September 1, 2023, that DID NOT attend 4K in the Waterford Graded School District is encouraged to enroll at this time.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Register online by using the NSOE (New Student Online Enrollment) page on our website.
If you already have a Skyward Account for a previous student, you may log into that account. Along the left-hand side, you will find "NEW Student Online Enrollment" where you can enter the grade (4K or 5K) and the enrollment information for your new student.
NEXT STEPS
Once you have completed the NSOE and verification has been completed, you will receive a letter with your Family Skyward Access permanent login credentials.
