The Bauman Blast
January 16 - 19
Happy Winter!
I want to thank you all for being so supportive of the e-learning we have done in the last weeks. Although it is never ideal, I felt that the students were all very present and attentive to lessons. I was proud of them completing assignments and also being so good natured about it. Although a snow day is always fantastic (and I had plenty of those, growing up in Minnesota!), I know that we will also be glad that we do not have extra days tacked on to our last days of school in June. If you have any suggestions for how I could be more effective during these days, please let me know. Otherwise, thank you so much for your support!
Our Busy Classroom!
Our Week in Review
- Today you should have a spelling test and a US State test coming home. Due to the shortened week, I used the words from last week, and the states as well.
- Students are really progressing with Module 3 in math. This deals with addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers. It can be VERY frustrating, but students are sticking with is and starting to master these important skills. I am anticipating a Module 3 test sometime next week, depending on how things go today.
- IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS KNOW THEIR MATH FACTS AUTOMATICALLY! Knowing math facts makes so many levels of problem solving less confusing. PLEASE make it a priority to work on this with your child,
- In Science we have started work with the water cycle. This week we learned that salt water dominates the world's water supply. Come on in and see our cool bar graph!
- Social Studies had us continuing to learn about the location of the states in our country, and we had a quiz today to locate and label 28 of the: Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, Minnesota, Florida, Georgia, Maine, New Hampshire, Idaho, Wisconsin, Vermont, Massachusetts, Iowa, South Carolina, Illinois, North Dakota, New York, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Louisiana, Indiana, Missouri, Connecticut, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania,
Spelling Bee
Beye School had the 5th grade Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 18. I was SO proud of everyone who participated in this! Miles Zimmer, Grace Boonstra, Hank Walton, and Miguel Vazquez represented us well! The pictures below show our students who participated. Congratulations to Miguel Vazquez who came in Third Place!
Debates Anyone?
We are starting our unit on debates in Language Arts. We are going to follow the Smash-Boom-Best format, and this is easy for you to access as well. We will be looking at two sides to debate, and students will prepare to represent either side in their research. These will be going on for the next few weeks.
