THE GRIZZLY GAZETTE
MULDOON ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER - November 2020
A Note From Mr. Grant
Dear Muldoon Families,
I want to start by thanking all of our families for attending our first quarter parent/teacher conferences. If you were unable to attend a parent/teacher conference or feel that an additional conference is needed, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a meeting.
As you may have read in an email sent to all families on Sunday, November 8th, our K-2 and Extended Resource classes will not be returning to school on November 16th. While this news is disappointing for many students, parents, and Muldoon staff, the news brings upon the opportunity for us to move forward positively with online learning.
What we’ve seen is that many students are not attending zooms and/or are not completing assigned work. Parents and guardians, we need your help getting your child(ren) on their zoom sessions and completing work in Seesaw for K-2nd and Canvas for 3rd-5th. It is oftentimes difficult for children to complete the assigned coursework in Seesaw and Canvas if they have not attended their synchronous (live) zoom sessions. During the synchronous zoom sessions, teachers provide direct instruction, as well as, work with students on assigned tasks. Students are able to ask questions and get clarification in areas they need more support with.
As you may recall, we began this school year with our i-ready math and reading assessments. The i-ready program is designed to be a diagnostic tool to let us know where students stand academically with reading and math. Based on the student’s diagnostic, lessons/pathways are created to fill in gaps students may have in regards to their reading and math conceptual understanding. In order for these tools to be successful, students need to logon to i-ready through their Clever portal for at least 90 minutes a week in each subject while we are in the distance learning model. This can look like 18 minutes a day/5 days per week for math and 18 minutes a day/5 days per week for reading. This gives you a total of 36 minutes M-F to complete the necessary time on i-ready to move forward and see improvement in math and reading skills.
We wish you well and thank you kindly for all of your support and effort to keep Muldoon students moving forward with their education.
Respectfully,
Leroy Grant, Principal
