Week 8 in Review
October 26 - 30
10.26 - 10.30
10.27: We acted out various plays that depicted how various acquisitions were made from 1800 - 1860; we got through The Louisiana Territory and The Adams-Onis (Florida) Treaty. Students discussed a painting titled "American Progress" by John Gast in 1872 (see picture above), ask your child to describe that it symbolizes.
10.28: We continued to act out our plays that depicted territorial expansion in the United States. Students recorded the events on their worksheets. These skits will be valuable as 1/3 of the test is about Territorial Expansion.
10.29: We discussed an open letter to the Minnesota Ojibwe and the students used this as an opportunity to further their understanding of the territorial expansions westward. They also had the option of making a Land Advertisement (broadside) enticing the public to come to Texas or the Oregon Territory.
10.30: We discussed the Oregon and Santa Fe Trail and the pros and cons of each one. Students had choice time to work on their Ojibwe letter or their Broadside Advertisements for Texas or Oregon Territory (due on Monday).
