The Sage plant is native to the Mediterranean area and has been widespread across the world ever since. Its cultivated commercially in the US, Eastern Europe, and Asia. The abstract of the Sage plant is the most used remedy for illnesses associated with the common cold in the Mediterranean. Lots of cultures also use this herb for medicinal purposes, decoration, culinary uses, and for rituals. Once ritual is the burning of sage to clean a person, group, or a place. This practice has been passed down and is still used in the Middle East, Asian, indigenous people in the Amazon, and most commonly today used in Native American cultures. Mainly the leaves are used but the whole plant has some medicinal and culinary uses. The main chemicals used in the plant are volatile oils, flavonoids, and rosmarinic acid for medical use. Tannins, estrogen, phenolic acids, and resin are also present in the plant.
