Cold and Flu Season Reminders
Cold and flu season is still here! Please remember to keep your child home if he/she has
had a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Students must be fever, vomit and/or diarrhea free for
24 hours, without the aid of over the counter medication, before he/she can return to
school. Your diligence helps decrease the spread of viruses at school.
We have not had any cases of lice reported but I like to remind parents to keep
checking. The earlier it is detected, the quicker treatment can start.
Some Facts About Head Lice
Where children are present and playing, there is always the possibility of the presence of
pediculus humanus capitis (head lice), which means there is a potential for there to be lice at
school.
The WSD has aligned nurse practices with both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the
National Association of School Nurses and we ask that parents keep the following information in
mind:
Lice are not a disease.
Lice do not reflect unsanitary homes or students.
Lice are absolutely an inconvenience.
By detecting lice early, both parents and nurses can get ahead in the process.
Listed below are links to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the
National Association of School Nurses. There is also a video on what to look for when assessing if your child has head lice.
