A Month of Art learning in April!
Ceramics, like drawing, is one of the earliest forms of art. This is likely due to the abundance of clay in many regions. While the first ceramic items found were animal and human figurines, functional and artistic pottery is found in many civilizations in the form of bowls and other vessels. To make your own clay at home to play with or bake, click here.
Ancient glass manufacture is thought to be closely related to making pottery, however, it wasn't produced independently until much later. We do know that blown vessels for everyday and luxury use were commercially produced during the age of the Roman Empire. While much has changed since these forms of art started, the basic process in both ceramics and glassblowing remain the same. To watch this video on the fascinating process of glassblowing, click here.
Photography, which is defined as a method of recording an image using light on light sensitive material, was first used in the 1830s. Since that time there have been numerous changes in photography. What started off as grainy, indistinct, black and white photographs has evolved into sharp, clear, colorful digital pictures that we all take using our cell phones.
As you and your student explore and learn more about these forms of art, see which captures their imagination and let them go deeper! Enjoy some resources below:

Testing
CAASPP Testing - We want to thank all of our families who have already participated in our state required state testing. Our numbers climbed quickly before Spring Break to a whooping 81%. However, we still have a ways to go to get to our needed 95%. If you haven’t tested yet, please reach out to your HST to set up a time. This year CAASPP testing is more important to the longevity of our school than ever before. There has been a lot of mixed messages about the new methodology for scoring students that do not test. Here is a document prepared by the CDE that explains it. If you have any questions about why testing is so important this year, or anything else testing related, we’re happy to answer them for you. You can reach us at testing@cabrillopointacademy.org questions? Feel free to reach out to your HST or testing@cabrillopointacademy.org.
STAR 360 - Our internal assessment the STAR 360 will launch on 4/25/22. Be on the lookout for an email with your student’s login information starting next week.
CPA has a website designed especially for our parents that talks about all the assessments we give throughout the year.

Field Trips and Events
CPA - Homeschool Hub Field Trips & Events (FTE)
IMPORTANT UPDATE: As of March 12, 2022, masks are no longer mandated for indoor activities; however, they are still strongly recommended and permitted for those who wish to continue wearing them.
Although masks are no longer mandated for public schools, they may still be required by some field trip venues. Please thoroughly review the field trips details before signing up for any in-person activities. Also, keep in mind that field trip venue policies are subject to change.
Protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our school community remains our top priority as we adjust to the new masking requirements. The following health and safety protocols are still recommended.
General Health and Safety Protocols
Staff, students, and students’ accompanying family members must complete symptom screening before coming to an In-Person Activity (see below).
Staff, students, and students’ accompanying family members should practice regular handwashing.
Staff, students, and students’ accompanying family members should practice physical distancing where feasible.
Symptom Screening Requirement
Families and staff must conduct a screening of COVID-19 symptoms of students and accompanying family members. Do not register for or attend any In-Person Activity if an individual (e.g., staff member, student, accompanying family member) is experiencing any of the following symptoms within 10 days of the In-Person Activity:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher
- (Persistent) cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Loss of taste or smell
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Muscle or body aches, fatigue

If an individual has any of the above symptoms while at the In-Person Activity, they must return home and will not be permitted to participate.

Homeschooling Advice
How to Use Minecraft in Your Homeschool
Video games are a very controversial subject when it comes to some parents and children. Some parents love them. Others hate them and consider playing these games to be a waste of time. However, it’s a well-known fact that game-based learning is very effective. When it comes to academics, the video game Minecraft is steadily growing in popularity.
What kid doesn’t love Minecraft? Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find one.
This game has the potential to help kids learn and grow intellectually. When you use your imagination and get creative, it becomes a powerful learning tool that any teacher can appreciate. It’s for this reason that many parents are using this specific game in their homeschools. When you combine that with the natural love that most kids have for the game, it just makes sense that you could work it into your curriculum.
Here are some ways to use Minecraft in your homeschool curriculum:
• Teach mathematics in a fun and entertaining way. In the game you use blocks to build things, which opens up the door to learn....... keep reading here

Hi, I am a Mother of 4 sons, and grandma of 3 little ones. I learned about homeschooling about 5 years ago and I loved the whole concept. I homeschooled my youngest son and he loved it! I wish I had known this way of teaching when my other sons were little. I love helping families to thrive, and be successful! I am here to help you in any way I can.
