PR/Media Relations Summer Internship (Paid)
On June 19, 2019, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture will open a new exhibition,
Determined: The 400 Year Struggle for Black Equality. This unprecedented exhibition
explores the African American experience from the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in
English North America in 1619 to the present day tracing the ways in which black people
have profoundly shaped the course of American history and the nature of American
democracy through their fight for freedom, equality, and justice. Visitors will encounter
dozens of personal stories, like those of Virginians James Lafayette, Mary S. Peake, Arthur
Ashe, and Missy Elliot, and nearly one hundred artifacts.
The Virginia Historical Society are seeking a PR & Media Relations Intern (PR Intern) to assist with outreach efforts and with scheduling and logistics for local and national media outlets leading up to the opening and for the initial months it is on display. The intern will have responsibility for drafting press releases and media alerts for "Determined" as well as other upcoming events and exhibitions. Passion for and knowledge of the exhibition topic is a plus.

Information Technology Internship (Paid)
Position available in the Department of Information Technology. Performs professional work in the support of York County computer workstations and portable computers. Utilizes various imaging software to create standard loads on County computers. Installs and verifies operation of proprietary software packages, based on user and departmental needs. Stays current on hardware changes, and maintains computer images accordingly. Works in Active Directory and help desk ticketing systems to ensure accurate asset management. Assists in the deployment of computer equipment and other projects, as necessary. This is a temporary position, not to exceed 24 months. Incumbent works an average of 20 hours per week.

GIS Programmer/Analyst I - City of Newport News
Provides technical support and training on GIS processes, procedures, and technologies. Provides data in support of emergency operations. Supplies data and maps to customers per partnership agreements and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Remains abreast of current and future issues and trends related to software development, desktop computer technologies and project management.

Budget & Policy Analyst - City of Norfolk
Essential functions:
- Evaluates department budget requests and recommends budget adjustments based on historical financial research and comparison, resulting in detailed analysis and written communication to senior management;
- Builds rewarding relationships with departments to assist with problem solving and process improvement;
- Identifies and resolves budget problems for departments;
- Informs appropriate staff about budget inefficiencies and works with them on the installation, maintenance, and review of proper budgetary controls;
- Completes analyses or special projects on issues such as local impact of a state or federal mandate
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge of accounting, budgeting, or finance. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
One year of budget or accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The preferred candidate will possess:
- A Master's degree in Accounting, Budgeting, Finance, Public Administration, Public Policy or a related field;
- Previous experience researching resourcing issues and evaluating budget submissions.
