Come Visit Here!

It is a great place to enjoy a nice safari! There are lots of different types of animals you can see! Such as, elephants, giraffes, ostriches, and warthogs. Those are just a few of many. It is also a good place to see a setting like in The Lion King. The temperate grasslands are a great place to just sit back and watch the day go by in a hot air balloon, or just to look out at the never ending plains! The grasslands are a good place to watch the sun set and listen to the rain fall on occasion. In the winter it can also be a great place to get nice and close to the fire and just relax on a cold day. The grass is always nice and high because of the soil that is rich in nutrients because of the growth, and the decay of common grass roots. There is also a constant height.

Alternate Names

The temperate grasslands are also known as the Savanna, Pampas, Plains, Steppes, Veldt, and Prairies. The commonly known differences between the different grasslands are mainly the types of vegetation.

Where We Are

Temperate grasslands are located south of the Tropic of Cancer and north if the Tropic of Capricorn. These grasslands have seasons and have temperature changes because the are temperate and not tropical. Most of the year they have a warm climate but that can change depending on the season. The North American grasslands have been reprised for agricultural reasons, they are no longer plains but are now farms and for pastures. this causes a loss of habitat for other creatures and will disrupt the food chain.

What To Expect

You can expect to see endless grass and a few trees. There are not many trees because of occasional fires and because of large mammals that roam the area. There are several different types of grasses including purple needlegrass and buffalo grass. There are also several flowers that you can see including asters and blazing stars. You can expect to see beautiful snow and ice in the winter. But if you come in the summer you will see the beautiful sun rise and set while lying down in the nice warm weather. Another thing to expect when you come to the temperate grasslands is about 25-30 in. of rain yearly. On occasion you can sit down and listen to the rain pour for a while. When you visit the temperate grassland, you will see Ungulates. They are large hoofed animals, the most commonly know ungulates that are found in the temperate grassland are Zebras, Bison, Rhinoceros, and Wild Hogs. You can expect to see some rolling hills and very small watering holes where animals go to drink and also just lots of flat plains and you will be surprised by the vastness of it.
