Dental Varnishing
Our school is participating in the Minnesota School Sealant Program, where students receive free or low-cost dental services provided at school. Dental sealants and fluoride varnishes are often provided in a public health setting due to the amazing benefits they provide at a low cost. If you have any kind of dental insurance the services are completely free! If you do not have dental insurance, your child can receive these services at a 70% discount.
The School Sealant Program not only provides dental care to children but also increases learning opportunities. Instead of missing a few hours of school to go to a dental office, we can provide sealants in 15 minutes just down the hall. By preventing cavities with sealants, kids will also avoid frequent tooth pain that can be a huge distraction from learning.
Consent forms - Please return this form to school once it is filled out. Without this form, the student will be unable to benefit from the dental care offered. The online form can be found at www.schoolsealants.com/consentform. Consent forms are due April 12th.
Information for the kids -
Your students may ask about what to expect on the School Sealant Program day. There are three services we will be providing: teeth cleaning, sealants and fluoride varnish. Parents elect which services their child receives. Here are a few ways that you can help them understand what is going to happen.
First, you can tell kids that we will have tooth fairies that will be looking at their teeth. For sealants, we paint the grooves of their back teeth and then shine a blue light to make the sealants last. For fluoride, we paint a protective coating over the outside of all their teeth. We strive to keep everything fun and lighthearted, making it a positive experience for everyone.
Please visit www.schoolsealants.com for more information.
Thank you for helping improve the oral health of the children at your school by participating in the Minnesota School Sealant Program!
MCA Testing
April brings the MCA testing season. The annual comprehensive assessments are given to students in grades 3-8 & 10 (reading) 3-8 & 11 (math) and 5, 8 & 10 (science.) The assessments are a tool we use to calibrate our programming, grow student achievement and better understand our student's college & career readiness skills. To help your student prepare, MDE has created this resource.

Daily Announcements
Our daily announcements contain many items for our 6-12 grade students. Parents can view the announcements by clicking on this Link. Announcements are updated by 8:00 AM everyday.
Attendance
Attendance is vitally important to student success. After all, the world is run by those who show up! If your student will be absent, please email attendancemshs@isd177.com, or call the office at 507-831-6910. Did you know you can also request an absence in the Skyward system? In your students portal on Skyward (while in parent view/family access) click on the attendance tab, then click on Request Absence and you can enter the details. Submitting this request sends an instant alert to our office and automatically updates our system.
Absences that are not excused are made up through after school detention. In addition, students who are chronically tardy make up time during lunch or after school should the situation become severe. Students also need to sign in at the office when they arrive late and they need to sign out at the office if leaving for an appointment. Failure to follow sign in/out procedures may result in unexcused absences that do count toward truancy. Excessive absences/tardiness may also result in a Saturday school. Thank you for your help in supporting your students on-time presence in class!
