A Fantastic Start to the School Year!
Dear Viking Families,
It was a great start to the school year! The energy and enthusiasm from students, parents, and staff have set a positive tone for the weeks ahead. It has been wonderful to connect with so many of you during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. Additionally, spending time with the students during passing periods and lunch has given us a chance to see their vibrant personalities and engage in meaningful conversations.
Thank you for being such a vital part of our school community. Your involvement and partnership make all the difference in creating an enriching and supportive learning environment for our students. Here's to a fantastic year filled with growth, learning, and memorable moments!

NOTE: When updating contact information, it would be helpful to use a cell phone number as the primary number. This will allow you to receive the text messages the school sends out. If you need assistance logging into the Aeries Parent Portal, please call our main office at 805-520-6820.
Student-Issued Devices
To ensure that your child's school-issued device stays in good condition and is able to serve them throughout the remainder of their time with SVUSD, it's important that students take proper care of it. One of the easiest and most effective ways to do this is by using the provided protective case. All school-issued devices come with a case to help prevent scratches, dents, and other damage that can occur from everyday use.
Parents please check-in with your child and make sure they are consistently using their case on their school-issued device as well as taking care of their device. School-issued devices should not be written/drawn on or have stickers all over them. Please avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture.
By taking these simple steps, your child can help ensure that their school-issued device stays in good condition and continues to serve them throughout their academic journey. Devices damaged maliciously or due to improper use/care will be charged to replace it. Thank you for your help and for reminding your child of the importance to take proper care of their school-issued device.
Protect Your Child's School Device: Please review the insurance coverage plan below for protecting your child's school-issued device. If you have any questions, please reach out to the company directly at 888-978-3515. Protection plans need to be renewed at the beginning of each school year. The deadline for current students to enroll in this optional protection plan for district-issued laptops is September 20, 2023.

Lockers
NEED A LOCKER: If your child does not have a locker assigned to them, please email Mr. Kiunke at brian.kiunke@simivalleyusd.org and in the subject line of the email type: NO LOCKER. Mr. Kiunke will assign them a locker and email you back.
Have a locker BUT want to Request for a Different one: Once all students have been assigned a locker, they will be given an opportunity in their Homeroom class to complete a change of locker request form (Link will be provided to students starting August 28th).
Why a Dress Code?
The purpose of a dress code is not to discourage individual expression! It is because there is a strong relationship between good dress habits, good work habits, and proper school behavior. There are MANY dress-up days available to participate in throughout the school year. Please review the student agenda book for specific detailed information. Parents… we ask that you help monitor your child’s dress! Our dress code is only as strong as the parent support we have!
Parking Lot Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Thank you all in advance for your patience the first few weeks as families get accustom to our drop-off & pick-up procedures. Please review the picture below for the proper flow of traffic in the parking lot. We ask that you pull all the way forward before stopping. This helps to alleviate the flow of traffic on Tapo Street. The schools back gates are open before and after school for additional drop-off and pick-up on Walnut & Township.

SVUSD Breakfast & Lunch Program
SVUSD will continue to provide FREE meals for the 2023-2024 school year. One breakfast and lunch per day will be available to our Viking students at no charge.
The former "snack bar" windows will now only be open as an express lane and serving the following:
Mondays: Pizza (Cheese & Pepperoni)
Tuesdays: Breaded Chicken Filet Sandwiches (Plain & Spicy)
Wednesdays: Steakburgers (with & without cheese)
Thursdays: Chicken & Rice Bowls (alternating Orange and Teriyaki each week)
Fridays: Domino's Pizza (Cheese & Pepperoni)
Each "snack bar" window will serve the same item per day along with carrot sticks, sliced apples, and choice of milk for a National School Lunch Program compliant meal. All other lunch options will still be avaible for student through the cafeteria line. The a la carte/snacks like chips, cookies, water, etc. will no longer be offered at the "snack bar" windows. We will now offer these items on a cart, outside of the MPR/cafeteria next to the quad.
Menus can be found on SVUSD's Child Nutrition website, as well as additional information regarding the National School Lunch Program, nutrition facts, and general information/inquiries. All meals will be free for students (limited to one breakfast and one lunch). Students wanting an additional lunch or breakfast will be charged for the second meal: $4.25 (lunch) or $2.75 (breakfast).
ATTENDANCE is IMPORTANT
Good attendance equals improved school performance. Please call the office if your child is absent to avoid a truancy. (Absences that are not cleared within 5 days automatically turn to a truant.) Valley Views 24 Hour Attendance Line is 805-520-6820 option 2 or ext. 1320. Please avoid tardies for your child. It is very important to be at school on time as it enables classroom learning to be more effective.
