May 26, 2022 Home and School Connection
Reminder! No school on May 27 & 30, 2022
Dear Crusader Families,
The incident in Texas the week brought much heartache to everyone. Our hearts mourn for the teachers and students that loss their lives. We have kept those students and teachers in our prayers at Mass this week. This is a difficult topic to talk to children about. For this reason, along with your help, we will assist a child who is struggling with trying to figure this out on their own. We know, as adults, it is hard for us to try to figure this out on our own! Here is a resource to look at if you would like to talk your child through it. As a school, we had a professional development earlier in this year to prepare in the case of such an event. It was called ALICE training. You haven't heard much about it on purpose. We have been trained to not share so the wrong people do to find out what we know. We do everything we can to make sure we are keep our students safe.
This week our students had a blast, courtesy of our FSA, and were provided a pizza lunch, extended recess, and yummy tasty ice cream treats! Students roared as the ice cream truck drove onto the school parking lot and there was much excitement at the relay games that took place after.
Next week, our 8th graders will have their final week of school until they join they join all of the Divine Providence alumni (including Mrs. Blase, Mrs. Scavelli, Ms. Caruso, and Mrs. Galdek!) On Thursday, they will have a short day, which will include their final Crusader Rally and a clap out- honoring all of the graduates on their final walk out of the school. We are proud of our graduates and wish them all success in their high school years and beyond!
Next week, students will also have a step up day. This day, Students in grades K-7 will visit with their teacher they will have next year. they will earn about what life is like in that grade and what they will be learning.
We do have some staff changes for next year. Mrs. Mahalingam will be leaving and moving closer to her family in Indiana. Mrs. Kallas will be leaving and moving to a warmer climate, like Florida! Mrs. Galdek is staying at DP, but will be taking the position as our Resource Teacher. We are also looking for a part time PE teacher.
We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Tracy Fleischer as our first grade teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Fleischer is a graduate of Divine Infant school. She received her Master's Degree from Olivet University She has extensive background working with students in primary grades and instructing students of different academic levels. Welcome to DP Mrs. Fleischer!
We are excited to announce that we are also hiring recess and lunch supervisors for the 2022-2023 school year. It is a daily position for approximately one hour each day that we have school. If you are interested, please contact me.
We need new faces to serve on our School Advisory Board. Our School Advisory Board consists of school stakeholders- parents, parishioners and community members to work with the school leadership. The board is advisory and therefore is commissioned to offer suggestions and advice regarding the vitality and continued success of the school. To apply to be on the School Advisory Board click here.
Looking ahead to the final week of school, we have full days of school on Monday and Tuesday (June 6th and 7th) and a 1:30 dismissal on Wednesday, Wednesday, June 8th. There is no after care on our final day of school.
As we look ahead to next year... don't forget that we have a service for all your school supplies! It really is a great way to save money compared to buying them yourself. Also, Please make your child's doctor, dentist or vision appointments. Click here for the requirements by grade.
Thank you for allowing us to be your partner with Catholic Education!
God bless!
Lynn LeTourneau
Principal
