The Ritenour Review
2018 - 2019 Third Grade Weekly News
A cold but fun week!
Here is a look into our coming week:
Word Study:
We will have our regular weekly sorts. Please, look in your child's folder for a sort list.
Mentor Sentences:
We will not have Mentor Sentences again until after IREAD. We will review IREAD concepts and procedures. This last week, we reviewed the concepts that will be presented on the IREAD test. Over the next few weeks, we will revisit test taking skills and how to reduce test taking anxiety.
Reading:
We started our newest class read aloud, Wonder. This is one of my personal favorites! Throughout this book, we will use our skills to analyze the characters we meet and look for changes within characters. We will also use our text evidence to support our predictions and build deep theories to push our thinking.
Our most exciting this starting this week will be our class book clubs. Last week, each club named their group and came up with some ground rules to keep everyone accountable. This week, each club will decide which chapter book they will begin reading. I cannot wait to see and hear the collaboration between each book club.
Writing:
We will work on writing our conclusion paragraphs. We have been typing our essays along the way. This will help us build not only our writing skills but also our typing skills, too!
Math:
We will continue working with word problems - we'll even be writing some ourselves. As we build deeper math skills, we will work with larger factors for our multiplication skills this week. This is a fun jump and the reason we have been visualizing our steps along the way. If we only memorize a strategy because it looks easy or someone told us to do so, we can become very lost when we need to see the bigger picture.
Science:
We will continue working with our cart style vehicles. We have been working on changing our designs to create a more successful motion. At this point, as long as your changes created a stronger more successful vehicle, we were happy! This week, they will be presented specific challenges to achieve.
