Heritage day was amazing! It gave me chills to see our students smiling, happy, and excited to celebrate who they are. Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this a special day for our students and families. A HUGE thanks to Ms. Turner for using her magic to organize this day. As always, you did a PHENOMENAL JOB!
We'd also like to thank our sponsors for donating and/or discounting their services for our Tigers (pictured below).
Remember that we act not in accordance with who we are, but who we BELIEVE ourselves to be. Today, we poured lots of love, confidence, and belief into our tigers. What would happen if we did this everyday??
We are super excited to kick off our school-wide P.B.I.S. based Tiger Tracker incentive program. You may need to extend your morning meeting to compensate for resetting after a long weekend, mindfulness, connections (they will have wonderful weekend stories) and the introduction of the Tiger Tracker and their goal setting. They should set their goal somewhere between the target score at the top of their Tiger Tracker and a perfect score. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Moultrie for support.
Please remember to share each of the ClassDojo classes you have created with Principal Kemp, Dean Amos and Dean Moultrie and Coach Turner. ClassDojo should inform and provide data for your reoccurring (weekly and/or monthly) grade level incentives as well as provide data for parent feedback and an additional option for parent communication.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to get set up:
1. Log into the website (you cannot share or accept shares from the app)
2. Find the class you want to share and click the gear icon in the top right corner of the class tile
3. Select "Add co-teachers"
4. Type the email of the teacher you want to share with, or find their name in the verified teacher list below the entry line and click "Invite"
5. The teacher you invite will receive an email asking them to accept the invite by clicking on the "Accept" link, or log into the website and click on the "Accept button on the class tile that will have appeared on their account dashboard
Starting next week, we will be closely monitoring our school-wide ClassDojo statistics, collectively called School Insights. For example, the week of 8/26 we had 85 messages sent to families, 28 photos and videos shared and 86% of the student feedback was positive. Good job! The positive feedback percentage is very important. Our goal is 10:1 feedback. Essentially, 90% of feedback logged should be positive.

Why Self-Care?
Teaching is such an intensive job, educators can greatly benefit from learning about and practicing self-care. Practicing self-care can be in the best interest of everyone in your classroom. Self-care is all about taking care of your health and making sure that you have everything you need to thrive as a teacher. Without taking care of yourself, you won’t have the energy to help your students. Self-care can keep you at the top of your game and ready to handle any challenges that come up during your teaching career. Wellness Wednesday will take place the second Wednesdays of the month. It is important to take care of yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and professionally. We will have a launch meeting in the CHRIS 180 room Wednesday, September 4th during each grade level planning time. Take a look at the self-care wheel and be ready to discuss how you take care of yourself!
This week we began implementing our Kindness Ticket program. All staff will be given "Caught Being Kind" tickets. When random acts of kindness are observed, you can give a student a ticket. These tickets can be deposited in the ticket box that will be located in the cafeteria. The tickets will be drawn daily for a prize. Students can also opt to take the ticket home to share with family. This program is being put in place to promote acts of kindness between students, and part of many anti-bullying and positive incentives that will be rolled out in the next two weeks.

Culture Resource of the Week
What and Why: Emotions are powerful: they can either overwhelm you, or become your best friend. Take your students on a journey to understand how they can manage their powerful emotions through mindfulness. ClassDojo has partnered with Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence to create some videos and discussion slides to help.
Who: This resource applies to all of the Slater team

Each week remind your students that they can report bullying in any form to you and describes the ways they can communicate to you e.g. inconspicuously sliding you a note or asking to speak with you in private. This helps promote students likely hood to confide in you. Remind that you deplore bullying as often as you can and that you are looking for it daily.
Also, peruse the Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center elementary webpage. There are a lot of tools and videos that address bullying.
