Distance Learning Announcements and Updates, 10/30/202
Message from Principal Ghereben
What a blustery way to start the week! High winds and power outages definitely made for an interesting Monday morning. Hopefully many of you didn't not experience too much damage or mess from the wind storm Sunday evening. Thank you for your patience and understanding as our school site lost power, as well as many teachers and families who live in this area. Throughout the week, we have continued to struggle with intermittent internet issues across the district at all school sites due to the power outage. The District continues to problem solve to bring our internet and wifi back to its proper speed.
Though the week started with a few bumps, we are excited to end the week with our Friday Flag Assembly this morning honoring this months Patriots of the Month (see links below), and our Halloween Car Parade later this afternoon at 1:30 (See parade info below). It will be a great event to end this month of October.
As always, your feedback is important, and I am available to meet with you during my weekly office hours (11:00am - 12:00pm, M-Th).
Have a wonderful and restful weekend!
Sincerely,
Heather Ghereben
Proctor Principal
Friday Flag Assembly, October 30th!
A Message from Superintendent Ahmadi
Dear Families,
The Alameda County Public Health Department yesterday announced that middle and high schools are now permitted to open for in person instruction. Click to read the press release here.
At last night’s board meeting, I shared updates on the reopening plan, including the results of the recent survey to which we received over 3,900 responses. The Board heard comments from attendees and discussed reopening. Based on the Board's direction last night, on November 12th at 4:00 p.m., I will be bringing recommendations on phases and dates of reopening for TK-12 starting in January. To join the special board meeting, please click the link here [https://cv-k12-ca-us.zoom.us/j/88421366325].
To stay up to date on the latest information and learn more about our work to prepare for returning to in-person instruction, please click the link here to view the Reopening Readiness Dashboard and the Roadmap to Reopening & Safety Plan [https://www.cv.k12.ca.us/reopening-roadmap/]

Next Week Schedule Changes for Assessment Week, 11/2 - 11/6!
Please make note that our instructional schedule will be changing next week, November 2nd through the 6th to allow for teachers time to re-assess students for Trimester 1. We will revert back to the schedule we used for the First Two Weeks of School during this time.
Next Week's Synchronous/Asynchronous Instruction time:
8:00 - 8:20sh - Daily 20 min. Classroom Meetings with Homeroom Teacher - setting students up for the day.
8:30 - 11:00 - Teachers will schedule appointments with students and families to assess where students are academically - please look for this communication if you have not received it yet.
11:00 - 2:40 - Lunch, PE, Science instruction continues, Office Hours with teachers to support students (as needed), and additional assessment appointments.
What Should Students Be Doing Throughout the Day?
- Working on their Asynchronous work that is listed in their Google Classroom, and attending PE and Science Classes held during the week. You should expect more work than normal for us to remain compliant with state instructional minutes.
Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions or need clarifications about next week's instructional schedule.
Thank You!
ATTENDANCE NEWS FLASH!!!
Attendance Update Starting 11/9/2020
Hello CVUSD Families,
We are writing to let you know that, starting Monday, 11/9/2020, you will see some changes to attendance recording for your student(s) under distance learning.
We are switching from a three-code system to a two-code system as follows:
Distance Learning Engaged (DLE), or code 1, will now be used as a consolidated code in place of both codes 3 and 4 (Distance Learning Synchronous and Distance Learning Asynchronous). This means we will no longer differentiate between how your student earns attendance on a given day or for a given class period.
Distance Learning Not Engaged (DLN), or code 2, will continue to be used to represent a lack of any participation type from your student on a given day or for a given class period.
We look forward to launching this simplified system and appreciate your ongoing support this school year.
Thank You,
Heather Ghereben, Principal
and
Student Services Department, CVUSD
Thank You PTA Volunteers!!
PTA Food Distribution Program
If you are interested in helping be a part of this awesome program that serves our community, please use the Sign Up Genius link below for next Tuesday. However, please be sure to check your email or the PTA Facebook page before showing up. Per the food bank we work with, the current program of boxes from the USDA ends this week and they are not sure they will have food for us next week. Things can always change and I'll send an update prior to next Tuesday, but please check before going.

Though the classroom competition is over, we are still taking donations until further notification. The more we collect, the more we earn.
