Teaching Social Studies in Conjunction with ELA Modules (January 16th)

This workshop is designed for teachers using ELA modules who are interested in teaching social studies aligned with the content specific modules. This workshop will use the Social Studies Framework as well as the ELA Modules that are Social Studies heavy to enhance learning in both subjects through inquiry. Register for Workshop

Adapting/Scaffolding Curriculum (3-8 ELA) (January 29th)

This workshop is designed for general education and special education teachers using ELA

modules and are interested in adapting module curriculum for student’s individual needs. This will also focus on scaffolding the module lessons in a way that is conducive to setting students up for success in subsequent modules and units. Register for Workshop

Introduction to Lego Robotics (February 11th)

This workshop is designed for educators who are interested in using Lego Robotics in conjunction with the Common Core Learning Standards. This will focus on the basics of using Lego Robotics, the program and manipulatives associated with it and ways to use with the new CCLS. Participants will explore the workings of the LEGO pieces, the connections to various content areas, and interdisciplinary ways to utilize this tool to teach interdisciplinary lessons. STEM Experience (Design) (March 12th)

This workshop is designed for teachers at any level who are interested in using the process of design as a vehicle to move closer to STEM education within schools. Participants will be immersed in the design process as a learner and will then analyze how those experiences can be used as a pedagogical shift to approach STEM education. (Registration opens soon)

Designing Instruction to Incorporate Lego Robotics (March 25th)

This workshop is designed for educators who are interested in using Lego Robotics in conjunction with the Common Core Learning Standards. This will focus on designing instruction using Lego Robotics, the program and manipulatives associated with it. Participants will be designing multidisciplinary lessons incorporating this technology. Attendance at “Introduction to Lego Robotics” is highly recommended. Register for Workshop

Determining Priorities from Data (May 15th)

This workshop is designed for educators who are interested in using student data to prioritize remediation and differentiation. Educators will use a protocol to analyze data and gather meaning from it. Teachers will leave with a method for analyzing data and using it to make data-based decisions regarding students’ achievements within a particular subject. (Registration opens soon)

Understanding Text Complexity (June 3rd)

This workshop is designed for educators who are interested in learning a method using a rubric to assess text complexity when making decisions on texts to use for assessments and student use. Educators will have a chance to analyze texts for complexity using the rubric. This sets a framework for selecting appropriate texts to ensure that texts are not too easy nor too complex before putting them in the hands of students. Participants will have time to analyze texts and work towards creating an assessment (formative or summative) using that text. (Registration opens soon)

All About Me

I have been in an elementary setting for the last 9 years. During that time I was a Consultant Teacher, Elementary Science Specialist and 3rd Grade Teacher working with ESL students. I have worked with Common Core Standards and modules as well as modifying work for students. I am currently a Staff Development Specialist at Erie 2 BOCES. I am originally from Central NY and moved to Western NY 10 years ago. I am married and the mother of a very busy 2 year old.
