Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of June 12th, 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Davenport Families!
“You know it’s the end of a school year when your to-do list resembles a lengthy novel, you’ve learned an entirely new definition of the word ‘exhausted,’...But your heart is completely full as you prepare to say ‘goodbye’ to another group of kids that have made you a better teacher and person.” - Unknown
One full week of school remains and summer break is on the horizon. Thank you to our staff for their resiliency in showing the students how to adapt to change. We are thankful to the parents/guardians for trusting us with your child(ren) during the constant changes. With five days remaining, we continue to celebrate and recognize the hardwork and dedication by the staff and students. There were many challenges throughout the 21-22 school year, however, we were able to Finish Strong!
This week, we concluded the #doitfordrayke challenge by awarding students with bookbags and wristbands. Also, our 3rd graders rocked it out for their end of the year dance. While we are sad to see our 3rd graders go, we are excited for the journey ahead as they prepare to embark on a trip to Miller School on June 21st to visit the staff and tour the building.
Furthermore, Student Appreciation Week was a success! Thank you to the Parents' Club for sponsoring the Kona Ice surprise. Looking forward to an even better 22-23 school year!
Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Father's at Davenport School! Thank you for being a great role model for our children.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Dino-Mite Way To End The Month Of May!
Mrs. Lowry/Mrs. LoSasso's first grade class paired up with Miss McGroarty's class to celebrate the end of their dinosaur unit! Students spent the last month learning all about dinosaurs through books, videos, and interactive lessons.
On dinosaur day, students became paleontologists for the day. They measured T-Rex footprints, made t-shirts, excavated chocolate chip cookies, dug for dinosaur bones, matched dinosaur bones to the correct skeleton and even made candy dinosaur caves!
The classes ended their day by making their own dinosaur skeleton craft and playing dinosaur bingo!
Butterflies Take Flight At Davenport
Mrs. Taylor's 1st grade class got to watch caterpillars grow into chrysalides and then beautiful painted lady butterflies! The process took about three weeks and the students documented the changes in their journals. The students said goodbye to their butterflies last week when they released them outside.
Greek Mythology Living Museum
GT students completed their unit on mythology by starring in their very own museum! Students studied Greek, Roman and Norse mythology. To prepare for the museum, each student chose a god or goddess to research. They created a monologue for their character and then memorized their lines. Finally, they dressed as their god or goddess and became living statues! Students who visited the museum had to activate each statue to hear their monologue. Everyone loved watching the statues come to life! The museum also featured constellations, Greek artifacts, Greek and Norse artwork and modern world connections to Greek Mythology. Did you know... Amazon, Starbucks, Nike, Dove soap, Saturn, the Apollo Theater and even Trident gum all have Greek mythology roots?!
Animal Habitat Project
Disney Adventures!
Miss Hein's kindergarten class went on an awesome virtual field trip to DISNEY WORLD! Some of the things they experienced were: the Welcome Show, the light show at Cinderella's Castle, the parade down Main Street, a "Would You Rather Game", a couple of rides and they even got to make their own Magic bands.
Character Award Recipients!
CLIMATE & CULTURE
Flowers & Farewells
The Davenport Staff honored our two retirees, Judy O'Rourke and Sue Nilsen, during the last staff faculty meeting of the 2021-2022 school year - and their last forever!
Student Appreciation Week
#DOITFORDRAYKE Challenge
From June 6th through June 17th our school will be participating in a #DoItForDrayke challenge. Davenport Complex will focus on and educate our students on being a good friend and always being kind to one another, despite our differences. Each morning the students will hear about a different character education trait over the announcements.
For these ten days, students will have the opportunity to earn a purple ticket by displaying acts of kindness, being a good friend, and for showing respect and leadership. On June 17th each homeroom teacher will randomly pull a purple ticket to choose a student to win a #DoItForDrayke book bag. These book bags are sponsored by EHT community members and parents Dominic and Andrea Pugliese and their charity “Built with Love,” along with 724 Bagger Co. A huge thank you to them for supporting and promoting a very relevant and worthy cause.
