IDIT - A - READ
It's Idit-A-Read time!
Continue to keep track of the minutes you are reading and help us reach Nome in the Month of March. The Big Lake Elementary Idit-A-Read race has begun.
PEAKS TESTING
All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking the State of Alaska’s annual assessment. This year our test has been designed from a new company and is called the PEAKS Test. Testing will take place on April 4th and 5th. All students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take a language arts and math assessment and the 4th graders will also take the Science test. This year the test will be a paper test instead of a computer based one. This should reduce the number of technical issues that greatly affected the testing last year. To help your child do his or her best on this test please encourage them and even though the sunshine is out more and more please make sure they are getting plenty of sleep and are ready to work hard. These tests can be a stressful time for your child so please continue to recognize the positives and encourage them along the way.
SELFIES FROM SCIENCE NIGHT OR DR. SUESS
If you took any selfies from Science Night or Dr. Seuss night and would like them published on the BLE website or possibly in the yearbook, please email them to Chrissy.Lovelace@matsuk12.us
Thank you for taking advantage of our selfie stations.
STUDENT TREASURE BOOKS
Your child is creating a book that will be sent for publishing on April 6th. They are working hard to make the final touches on their books. Be looking for an order form from your child’s teacher. We will also have some at the office.
Your child will get their first book for free, but if you would like extra copies of the book, then send the order to your child’s teacher BEFORE APRIL 6th. You can also order extra copies online after the books have been published.
If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Haddeland 892-9732.
XC SKIING
A reminder of when your student will ski: Mondays is for 5th and kindergarten, Tuesdays is 1st and 3rd grades, Wednesday is 2nd and 4th grade, unless you made arrangements with the coaches to have your student ski on a different day.
If for some reason, you would like your student to ride the bus home instead of staying after school for skiing, please call the school office at 892.9700 to let us know.

MUSIC NOTES
Piano/Keyboarding Club has started up and is still open to any 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader interested in joining. The club meets Tuesdays 8:30am-9am for the remainder of the school year. Feel free to contact Mrs. Hardman with any questions.
Took any great pictures of our band lately? If anyone has pictures from the Combined Band Concert (or any other concerts) I would love a copy! Feel free to email me at christina.hardman@matsuk12.us.
Thank you!
LIBRARY PAGES
LOST BOOKS
Please take some time to search for any missing library books at home! Any from other schools can be turned in here and I can get them to their home school. It’s never too late to turn in missing books! Lost books may be replaced with any book of equal value (preferably hardback) that kids will want to read. Annebelle’s Used Books is a great place to find replacements.
NURSE RX
HEALTH SCREENINGS
The nurse is finishing up health screening with heights, weights, vision, blood pressures, and hearing.
All should be completed by the end of April. If there are any referrals they will be sent home with your child, and the nurse will follow this up with a phone call.
Also coming home are immunization reminders for children who have been in a waiting period to get the next vaccine, and notices to fifth grade students that are due for their next vaccines. Please note if your fifth grader is due for vaccines and these are not done by the time your child is to start school in the fall they might not be able to start until proof is given to the school.
If you have any questions about screenings or vaccinations needed please call Nurse Moore @ 892-9705.
