August 2021
From the Principal
Viking Families and Friends,
Can you feel it? The excitement of a new school year is in the air, and it’s a great feeling to have. The building came alive last week with new and returning students as well as teachers and staff. Now that summer vacation is officially over, it’s time for all of us to get back to leading, guiding, and supporting our students on their educational journey.
Having a successful high school experience extends beyond the regular school day. It includes students getting involved in healthy and positive activities outside of school. Student involvement has many benefits, but some of the most noteworthy include the opportunity to learn the values of teamwork, both individual and group responsibility, and diversity, as well as instilling a sense of culture and community.
Valparaiso High School students have access to over 50 active clubs, which does not include co-curricular activities, such as Varsity Singers, Viking Press, Speech and Debate, or sports. During all lunches on Wednesday, August 25th and Thursday, August 26th, students will have the opportunity to meet club members and ask questions. Please encourage your student to browse the various tables and, hopefully, get involved.
Lastly, It is no secret that building relationships, helping students continuously grow, and providing rigorous instruction are key to student success. Everyone at VHS, from our administrators, aides, and teachers to our counselors, food service professionals, and nursing staff, is working together to create the best possible experience for students. The “newness” of the academic year will eventually wear off, but please know that we are here to support our students and look forward to working with them and their families throughout the year so feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions.
Welcome to the start of another academic year!
