Recommended Chrome Extensions for Teachers

G Suite Training (Google for Education)

Summary: New to G Suite? G Suite Training is a Chrome extension that offers simple and interactive training lessons to get you up and running fast with G Suite (formerly Google Apps).


Purpose: Interactive training in all of the core Google apps (Drive, Classroom, Sites, and Calendar)

Share to Classroom

Summary: Allows teachers to share any webpage with students in Classroom or push it out to the students computers (they must have extension enabled).


Students can push a webpage or Google Drive file to the teacher for easy class sharing.


Purpose: Saves time and gets the web page on the students computer quickly.

Extensity

Summary: Quickly enable/disable Google Chrome extensions.


Purpose: Saves time turning extensions on and off.

Talk and Comment

Summary: Record voice notes on any webpage and paste into the comment feature in Google Drive for instant voice recordings. Check out video here.


Purpose: Great for leaving voice feedback.

Awesome Screenshot Minus

Summary: Screen capture for all or part of any web page. Add annotations, comments, blur sensitive info, and share with one-click uploads.


Purpose: To create a screen capture of a webpage in order to annotate. Note: capture entire page feature does not work with Google Drive files.

Dyslexia Friendly

Summary: Increases readability of web pages by changing fonts, contrast and adding a reading ruler


Purpose: Allows students with dyslexia to easily read online text.

Click to Speech

Summary: Click on a text and Click to Speech reads it out to you. It reads text on webpages, on Google documents, and PDFs (when opened with Kami or Lumin).


Purpose: Reads text to students on webpages and in Google Drive files.

Read and Write for Google

Read and Write for Google has a premium and free version. While the premium version is robust, the free version aids in text to speech and speech to text.


Purpose: Reads text to students in a Google document. Great for online assessments in Drive.

Google Dictionary

Double click a word on a webpage (does not work within Google Drive) and instantly get the definition. Click the audio button to get word pronounced.


Purpose: Quickly gives students the definition, so they can understanding the text better.

Colorzilla

Summary: Advanced Eyedropper, Color Picker, Gradient Generator and other colorful goodies


Purpose: Get a color reading on anywhere in your browser.

Screencastify

Summary: Simple screen capture software; record all screen activity inside a tab, including audio. Save to computer or upload to Google Drive.


Purpose: Create a screencast or webcam video explaining a concept.

Spreed

Helps increase reading speed without compromising comprehension. Choose the number of words per minute to practice fluency. You can copy and paste text from a Google document into 'spreed' by clicking on the extension and selecting 'paste text into spreed.'


Purpose: Challenges students to read at or above their targeted WPM in order to improve fluency.

Student Access

In Leander ISD, students can access the Chrome extensions enabled for them from the fork12.leanderisd.org section of the Chrome Web Store or on the Student Tool Kit page of the student website.
