COACHES CORNER

~ The district reading festival is tonight from 5:00-6:45 at Chisholm Trail High School. If you had students RSVP, make sure to remind them about it! Ashley, Liza Riley, and I will be there tonight to represent Elkins.

~ If you have not sent me names, just a reminder... The district is going to offer summer school this year for students in grades 2-5 who would fail (end of year average) due to grades. After getting more clarification, it looks as though this will be an option for students who we feel would benefit. This is not something that will have a high number of attendees, as it's only a way to ensure they are promoted to the next grade level due to failing grades, since we all know that retention is not an effective method to improvement. If you have students who you think are going to qualify, please send me their names. Again, this is ONLY going to be allowed for students who would fail at the end of the year. Even then, it is not guaranteed they can attend, but it might be an option.

~We are out of school this Friday, so please remind students and families that there is no school on Friday!! Woo-hoo! Yay for long weekends!!

~ Your TSR part II and III are due on Friday. Make sure to complete those as soon as you get the chance. Make sure to hit SUBMIT, so that it is saved. Please take the time to answer the questions thoroughly, as this is what will be used when Bobby and I complete your summative evaluations. Summatives will begin being completed, and we will begin scheduling conferences. The sign ups will be on our doors next week to sign up for a time slot.

CAMPUS NEWS

~ Congratulations to Olga, Lilly, and Kendra on their wins for Elkins employee of the year! Kendra will go on to compete for the district teacher of the year award, and the winner will be announced at a luncheon that takes place in May. Thanks to everyone who voted and nominated!!!

_ Those of you who are interested in Great Expectations training, let me know. We will have extra slots available (we can have up to 10 participants). This is a great opportunity, as the district is paying for us to send 10 people to go. It takes place the first week in June AND it's taking place in our district, which is extremely convenient. Let me know if you're interested, and I will get you a form to fill out. I have to get them turned in by the end of the week, so let me know ASAP, if you're interested.

~We are looking at the calendar to schedule the Vocabulary Parade. This is something that will be new this year, but start talking about it with your kids. They can pick one of the words that we learned this year and they dress up like that word. It will work similar to how the KG parade was. I will get some pictures from EME, so that you can see some examples and also show your students. It should be a lot of fun.

Don't forget to turn in the "Word-Up" Level forms!! The kids love it when they come down and receive their "word up" tags! We had one 3rd grader get both Vocaber AND Word Wizard because of her outstanding use of the words in her writing!!
