A Message From Michele Barkley, Coordinator of Early Learning
Dear ELC Families,
At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 16th, the recommendation for a full in-person learning return for students was approved. We are asking families to please complete the FAMILY SELECTION SURVEY to indicate if they would like for their child to return to full in-person learning or would prefer for their child to learn remotely. If you have not done so already, please click on the link below to complete the survey.
On April 5th, we will implement the approved plan. Our school hours will remain the same however, ALL children will attend either in-person or remotely (the option you have chosen) 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).
AM Session: 8:15 AM - 10:15 AM
PM Session: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
With a new full day schedule our goal is to provide an equitable learning platform for your child, whether they are learning in-person, or remotely. The “classroom community” is something that our district values highly, and will continue to develop and practice for the remainder of the school year. Our teacher's are navigating through new and unfamiliar teaching and learning practices, and will do their best to educate your child and provide the best classroom experience possible with the time we have left this year. Our goals all year has been to establish routines, connect with our students, and build a strong classroom community with a blend of in-person and remote learners. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child's growth and development this year. We promise we will do our best with the precious time we have left.

A Message from Jeff Knapp, HR Director
As we approach Spring Break, we have been in close contact with the Lake County Health Department and other Lake County School Districts in discussing travel. As indicated above, community transmission of COVID-19 is a key metric that we use to inform our mode of learning. As members of a larger community, it is up to us all to help slow and control the spread of the virus. For those planning to travel over Spring Break, we are strongly encouraging everyone to be cognizant of potential exposure and to continue the due diligence in adhering to the 3Ws – wearing a mask, watching our distance, and washing our hands. As always, we ask that we are all monitoring any COVID-like symptoms and staying home when it is recommended to do so.
Domestic Travel – if you are unable to follow the 3Ws in your travels, it is recommended that you and your travel companions quarantine for 10-days upon return and obtain a COVID-19 rt-PCR test 5-7 days after you return. Even if the test is negative, it is recommended that individuals complete their quarantine.
If able to follow the 3Ws: We will not be requiring a quarantine for those traveling domestically over Spring Break. Our expectation is that staff/families will be traveling and follow our mitigations of the 3 Ws (Wash hands, wear mask, watch social distancing) throughout the trip. The exception would be on the actual flight itself which we will recognize the filtration systems that have been put in place to effectively serve as a mitigation to allow our staff to travel with the layered approach mentioned in this guideline: https://flightsafety.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/COVID-19-Risk-Reduction-Strategy.pdf
International Travel – On January 12, 2021, the CDC issued an order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. This order became effective on January 26, 2021. This order applies to all air passengers, 2 years of age or older, traveling into the US, including US citizens and legal permanent residents.
CDC: After-Travel Recommendations
Get tested 3-5 days after travel (Lake County Health Department recommends a test 5-7 after travel) AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel (Lake County Health Department recommends a 10-day quarantine).
Even if you test negative, stay home and complete the self-quarantine.
If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
The Administrative Services Center (ASC) will be open to the public the week of Spring Break from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.
All school buildings (ELC, Petty, Oakland, Hillcrest, and AUGS) will be closed to the public during the week of Spring Break.
