From Palmer River Elementary School
May 26, 2023
Dear Families,
It has been a very busy week here at Palmer River. Our first and second graders enjoyed a safety presentation by Think First Community Outreach. Students learned about bike safety and proper equipment that should be worn to keep our bodies safe while riding a bike. Our third graders traveled to the Carpenter Museum and learned about local history. They also visited the Plimoth Patuxet Museums to learn about the history of the Plymouth Colony and the Indigenous homeland. Our fourth graders spent time by the Palmer River and learned about the Macroinvertebrates inhabiting the river. A lot of learning occurred this week, both in and out of the classroom, and all had fun!
Be sure to check out the list below for more information regarding upcoming events. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal

Going Through A Tough Time?
Dear Palmer River Friends and Families,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health includes childrenβs mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being. It affects how children think, feel, act and learn. It is also instrumental in how children handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one in six children ages 2 - 8 has a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. Of course, this varies by region and other confounding variables.
Massachusetts has developed several initiatives to better serve our youth and families as the number of mental health challenges continues to rise in our Commonwealth. I have included some resource links in this newsletter that may be useful for a relative or neighbor in need of some support.

Parent Volunteers Needed for End of Year Art Projects at Palmer River School!
Our incredible art teacher, Mrs. Beaulieu, has some exciting plans for our students as we near the end of the school year. To make it all happen, she could use a little help from our parent community. We've put together a list of parent volunteer opportunities that are needed to help bring her vision to life. If you're able to lend a hand, please use this sign-up link at https://signup.com/go/nBeuTFb to get involved.
May 30th and June 2nd, 9am-12pm
Help organize self-portraits of our 4th graders through the years onto banners, and label with their age and name. This is an ongoing project in preparation for the 4th Grade Art Show. Please sign up for any days that you're available.
June 8th, 9am-2pm
Lots of help is needed during the day to prepare for the 4th Grade Art Show! Join us for a day of preparation and get a sneak peek of the amazing display to come!
Please note that all parent volunteers must have a current CORI on file. If you need to update or complete this process, don't worry! It's quick and easy - simply reach out to Mrs. Rupp in the office at prupp@drregional.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and contributions to our students' artistic experiences at Palmer River!
