Principal's Post
Week of October 11 - October 15, 2021
Dear Angell Community,
A special thank you to Abby Levin and Kara Roth and all the volunteers who organized the Fun Run. Although Mother Nature tried hard to disrupt the afternoon, the weather cleared and we ended up having a wonderful afternoon for the run. I am happy to report as of the first run on Friday afternoon we were already at $20,000+ and growing. Thank you to all of our sponsors and community members for an outstanding fundraising event. I also wanted to thank everyone who ran with their children and came to watch the event. A great time was had by all. Enjoy pictures of the fun run throughout the newsletter.
We also have a fun opportunity for all students to participate in as Halloween approaches. Please check out the Great Pumpkin Contest below sponsored by Mrs. McKeeman. There will be extra copies of the pumpkins at the Media Center this week. This is a wonderful way to connect to literacy and a love of reading.
This week we are wrapping up our NWEA testing for grades K-5 this week and will share results with parents prior to conferences. Our students have been flexible with adjusted schedules and have done a nice job putting their best foot forward during the testing window.
Please remember to send in extra masks with your children as many students go through multiple masks in a day. We do have a supply of masks but I have noticed that our inventory has decreased considerably since the beginning of the year. We will continue to have masks on hand for all students but any extra help is appreciated.
One last reminder, our PTA is hosting a Parents Night Out this evening (Sunday, October 10th) at The Dog & Pony Brewery from 4pm-8pm (see flyer below in PTA Updates). This is a great opportunity to meet other Angell parents and develop life-long friendships.

Message from District Leadership
Last week Superintendent Francis shared a communication with updates to our quarantine and isolation guidelines. While we do have cases in our District, we are happy to announce we have no spread happening in our buildings. Our safety protocols (mask wearing, strong ventilation systems, regular cleaning) are preventing any COVID-19 spread from occurring.
After speaking with leaders in other districts, our principals and the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD), we have one change to announce.
We will continue to communicate directly with families who have children identified as close contacts (within 6 feet of someone who is COVID-19 positive for more than 15 minutes during the school day). Those who are close contacts will have to monitor for symptoms, quarantine or participate in a testing program, depending on the exposure type and whether both parties were masked or vaccinated. As a reminder, we’re following the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) protocols for quarantining close contacts. You can view the MDHHS quarantine guidelines on their website.
Starting next week, in addition to personally notifying all close contacts of their potential exposure to COVID-19, we will also begin sending classroom letters to elementary families if there is a case of COVID-19 in the classroom. These letters will not share whether it was a staff or a student who is positive, nor will it share any identifying information of the person who is positive. The letter will let parents know that a case is in the classroom.
If your child is not identified as a close contact, there are no additional precautions or steps recommended for you to take.
OCHD and MDHHS recommend that parents/guardians should always be monitoring their children for symptoms, and we encourage families to use the Clear To Go app to do a symptom check every morning. If your child is sick, we appreciate you keeping them at home.
It is also important to remember to share with your school administrator if your child tests positive for COVID-19 after an outside of school exposure so we can do contact tracing in our building if necessary. As a reminder, students should be fever free and off of any fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
TIME MATTERS
I want to remind everyone that we get right to work each day and making sure students are on time for school matters. Our first bell rings at 8:00 am with instruction beginning at 8:05 am. To ensure your child starts the the day on time we recommend arriving to school prior to 8:00 am and allow your children to line up with their classmates. Arriving at 7:50 am is a good target time.
We appreciate your cooperation. A timely start is the first step in having a great day!
If you prefer to have your child eat lunch at home please fill out the weekly Eat at Home Request Form below.
