Dalai Lama Fellows
Social Innovation, Ethics & Contemplative Values
Start Your Journey
We are calling globally minded citizens who want to build a more harmonious, peaceful, and sustainable world. Join an international network of Fellows who are committed to social change rooted in secular ethics, contemplative values, and compassion. More than ever, our individual ability to thrive – indeed survive – is interwoven with the destinies of others, and in a new consciousness captured well in the Earth Charter. Moreover, new definitions of success and well-being are needed, with "being more" taking precedence over "doing and having more," particularly once basic needs have been met.
When the Dalai Lama authorized this program, he suggested that we work in the "hard places." This year, our program is seeking proposals for year-long compassion-in-action projects that will improve well-being while working across differences at the intersection of justice, peace, and ecology. We are interested in supporting efforts that will strengthen unlikely alliances and improve well-being in locations where economic impoverishment, violence and/or discord, and ecological degradation intersect. Ideal projects will have layers that respond to each of these intersecting challenges.
This year we'd like to fund proposals that:
- Facilitate a coalition or a yearlong series of conversations or classes
- Conduct a community-based research project
- Create an app or other technology-based intervention*
- Create a community-owned agrobiodiversity project
- Explore the intersection of art and social change (visual/drama/books)
We are seeking social innovators keen on using Dalai Lama Fellows as a platform for deepening their inner clarity in response to outer complexity via the key skills our curriculum advances, and for strengthening their networks globally in order to leverage their impact. Engaging with our curriculum over the course of one year involves completing monthly readings and reflections, as well as exercises drawn from a variety of disciplines.
As a Fellow, you:
- Design and launch a project to address a significant challenge in your community;
- Travel 2x to the Ethical Leadership Assembly (ELA) near San Francisco to connect with Fellows from around the world and to deepen your leadership capacity;
Participate in a distinctive, year-long curriculum with ongoing, personalized coaching.
