Welcome Back from Mrs.Baugh
Hello Johnson Families!
Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! We are off to a great start! Johnson is a very loving school and we are so glad to have your child or children be a student in our school. We work very hard to ensure your children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for your children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. If you are available to volunteer at Johnson, please let your child's teacher know and we can connect you with our PTO Co-chairs. Also, please make sure you join PTO. The PTO membership dues are $10 per child. The membership dues are used for other special events the PTO has and Staff Appreciation.
We have many wonderful things plan for this school year and look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Tosha Robinson Baugh, Principal
Mattie Grace, FSSD Therapy Dog
Gentry Tutoring

Notes from Nurse Fisher
I am so glad to be back for another great school year at JES! I have been the school nurse here since 2005 and also serve as the nursing supervisor for FSSD.
I have already talked with our students about the importance of not spreading germs at school so we can stay safe and healthy. We have students and staff members in our building who are especially susceptible to illness due to treatments for cancer and chronic illnesses, so we want to make sure to be extra diligent to practice good handwashing and “catch” our coughs and sneezes in the bend of our elbow. We also need parents to make sure that children who have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea do not return to school until they are symptom-free for a full 24 hours (they should be fever-free WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol/Advil. If you do not have a thermometer, or are not sure if your child is well enough to be in school, please feel free to bring your child to the clinic for a temperature check before school starts. I am in the clinic at 8:00 a.m.
We all need to start our day with breakfast! School mornings can be hectic, so if it has been one of those mornings, please tell your child to go to the cafeteria for breakfast when they arrive to school which is served from 8:00 a.m.- 8:30 a.m.
If your child has medications (including cough drops) that are needed during the school day they must be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian and paperwork completed. Please make sure you read the parent handbook for more detailed information regarding school health and medication protocols.
"Earn Your Stripes" Fundraiser
Earn your Stripes" is JES's major fundraiser for this year. We are asking for every student to raise $100 (or more) by asking family and friends to donate to our school. There will be prizes given out just like the ones given in the past. To help get the students excited about the fundraiser, each grade level will have a tiger hanging on the wall outside the gym with a collar around its neck so the students will be able to see which tiger belongs to their grade. The tigers will initially have no stripes on them, but students will earn stripes for tigers when they bring in donations.
Donations can be made with cash, checks made out to Johnson Elementary or a major credit card using the Square. Next week, we will have a link through RevTrak for family and friends to use to donate to their favorite Johnson Tiger!
With the funds we raise, we will purchase new cafeteria tables, technology for students and teachers, and other technology resources to aide teachers in their classrooms.
Our school goal is $20,000! Donations can be turned in anytime during the length of the fundraising campaign, which ends October 18th. Please help us reach our goal! Thank you!
PTO News
A big thank you to everyone who has joined our PTO! Your $10 donation goes to great things at JES! It helps us with our Tiger Bash, Valentine's Dance and Teacher Appreciation Week among other important and fun events! Without YOU these events wouldn't be possible. If you haven't joined yet, it's not too late!
Also, stay tuned for information about our first PTO meeting. We will be talking about our upcoming Tiger Bash on Friday, September 20th.
Our NOOK box is out in the front lobby. We will be collecting socks and underwear in the upcoming months so please keep that in mind when you are out shopping.
You can follow the JES PTO on Instagram @ johnson_elem_pto and on FaceBook @ Johnson Elementary PTO, to stay up to date with the latest PTO happenings.

Independence Day at JES!
Dear Parents,
Celebrate Independence Day with us on Tuesday, September 3rd! Beginning Tuesday, Johnson Elementary is encouraging all students (K-4) to walk independently to the cafeteria for breakfast or their classroom hallway each morning for the remainder of the school year.
Parents are welcome to walk their child to the front door in the morning and say their goodbyes before they enter the building. For our younger students, we will have ample staff members on duty both outside and inside the building to ensure your child gets to their classroom safely.
Our goal is for our students to embrace their school and classroom and to have the confidence to make it there independently, and also to ensure that our school maintains recommended safety guidelines of limiting visitors during school arrival and dismissal times. Parents please know that you are always welcome at JES! If you need to enter the building in the morning for a meeting or you are volunteering, please sign in at the front office.
This is a very big accomplishment for some students; so let them know you are proud of them for being independent! To celebrate Independence Day at JES we are planning fun activities for the students. Please have your child wear red, white, and blue on Tuesday, September 3rd for JES Independence!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Baugh, Mrs. McCoy &
the JES Faculty/Staff
This does not apply to Pre-K students. PreK parents will still need to sign in every morning and walk their children to Mrs. Pewitt’s or Mrs. Hayes’ classrooms.
