Simile
A figure of speech where two unlike things are compared, using like or as.
EX: "I stare down the empty corridor as if the decision lies there." Hunger Games
Metaphor
A figure of speech that compares two unlike things without like or as.
EX: "Katniss, the girl who was on fire." Hunger Games
Personification
To give human qualities to non-human objects.
EX:"With both of us hunting daily, there are still nights when game has to be swapped for lard or shoelaces or wool, still nights when we go to bed with our stomachs growling." Hunger Games
Hyperbole
An extreme exaggeration.
EX: "Attendance is mandatory unless you are on death's door." Hunger Games
Alliteration
Some words that start with the same letter in one sentence. (Tongue twisters)
EX: "...I noticed him, a boy with blond hair peering out from behind his mothers back." Hunger Games.
Onomonopia
The use of words referred to the object or thing talked about. Such as buzz, boom, bang, and pow.
EX: "RIPPP! I grit my teeth as Venia, a woman with aqua hair and gold tattoos above her eyebrows, yanks a strip of fabric from my leg, tearing out the hair beneath it." Hunger Games
