Meet GRASP Alumnus Alfredo Sanchez
What is the best thing GRASP has done for you? I think the best thing that GRASP did for me was instill in me the idea that higher education was a real possibility and that I could afford it.
What are you doing now (or will you be doing)? I just moved back home to Richmond and got a job as an Energy Consultant for Sigora Solar. In other words, I'll be selling solar panel systems to the greater Richmond area to both reduce people's electric bills and reduce their footprint on the environment.
What one piece of "educational advice" would you give to high school students? Take as many Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school as possible. This will save you a lot of time and money down the road. Also, make sure you take the SAT at least a couple of times and give yourself the time and resources to adequately prepare for it.
What is the biggest life challenge you faced relative to your educational path? During my final semester in college I took a lot of difficult courses at the same time while working a 25 hour/week part time job. I was essentially doing 3 individual studies, 3 high-level courses, and working a part time job. These were some of the most stressful and sleep deprived few months of my life. I would advise other students to plan ahead of time so that they can balance out their workload.
Also of note... I am an immigrant, first generation college student, and I graduated cum laude from UMW.
