8th Graders Complimented at Reality Check
Every year schools from the surrounding area, including SLS, take 8th graders to the WRBI Reality Check, a simulation of what it's like to be an adult with adult responsibilities. While at this year's Reality Check, Mrs. Wilson was approached by a man named Jim Pierce, a former teacher who was volunteering for Reality Check. Mr. Pierce wanted to know if she was a teacher at SLS. Mrs. Wilson said yes, to which he responded, "You have the best, most well behaved kids we have go through the circuit. Your school is the best school to come visit us." At that point two other ladies who were also volunteers walked over to her and also complimented our students.

"Rose"ry project
We are now down to the final two weeks for our "Rose"ry project!
During the month of October, our SLS students, staff, and parishioners have been praying the rosary and coloring a rose for each one that they pray. Those roses are now decorating our school windows and church walls, and they are a beautiful reminder of how much our Blessed Mother loves us. This is also an amazing opportunity to pray for our parish, our school, and each other, so feel free to add prayer intentions to the back of your rose if you wish. Prayer, especially the rosary, is very powerful.
Our goal is to surround our school and church with our roses by the end of October, so keep those rosaries (and roses) coming! There are roses available at all church exits and in the school office. We will also be sending home copies with our students today. Thank you for all your help with this project!

8th-Grade Visits the National Institute for Fitness and Sports on the campus of IUPUI
By: Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Paul, and Miss Trenkamp
On Tuesday, October 22nd, SLS students visited the campus of IUPUI and were given a 2-hour crash course on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. 18 boys and 18 girls made two teams and rotated through a series of 12-minute interactive fitness demonstrations that examined the positive effects of exercise, common injuries that occur during exercise or sporting events, and a detailed look into how to maintain a healthy weight. Students learned that 3,500 calories equal one pound and in order to gain or lose weight you need to monitor caloric intake. By developing and living active lifestyles and healthy eating habits you can prevent heart disease which is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Students were shown a machine that can accurately measure BMI indexes called the BodPod. Some favorite circuits included a rotating rock-climbing wall, track and agility relays, the use of cardiovascular equipment, and scooter board soccer.
