Team Update:
The Trailblazers are swinging into high gear this January and February. In addition to the excitement and privilege of daily learning in the classroom (we could stop right there, couldn't we?), the students are anticipating the conclusion of their third team incentive, which is set to coincide with the completion of their study of the Middle Ages. That can only mean that a Medieval Feast and Fun Fair is coming in February!
Trailblazers students and teachers are also completing STEAM projects that they started in the fall. That means Albion students and staff can expect to see well-tested gliders sailing across the gym; carefully-constructed bridges that hold hundreds of pounds without cracking; smartly-illustrated graphic "novels" imagined and written by students; micrography word-portraits of past and present trailblazers; and a student-written and -produced movie based on an historic novel. As you can see, the Trailblazers are learning tons and having tons of fun this winter!
Raising Cyber-Conscious Kids:
The Strongsville City Schools guidance department will be hosting a seminar on raising cyber-conscious kids on January 21st from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Strongsville High School Little Theater. The guest speaker will be Caroline Wathey from Internet Crimes Against Children. Click here to view the flyer.
The website for Ohio's International Crimes Against Children Task Force is an excellent resource for parents, students, and community members regarding cyber-safety and online predators.
Student Registration and Student Forms To Go Digital:
The district has begun to work with InfoSnap, a leading company in online registration. As an additional benefit, InfoSnap is owned by PowerSchool, making it a single sign-on solution for our families. Consequently, all beginning of the year forms and other school forms will be pre-populated with the basic biographical information and completed electronically. This means no more paper shuffling; parents simply login to PowerSchool, click on the InfoSnap link, edit the information online, and submit. We are excited to add this solution to the district to improve the completion and accuracy of these necessary annual forms.
Southwest General Hospital Safe Sitter Class:
For boys and girls 11-14 years old to learn CPR, choking rescue, first aid and home safety. Classes will be held January 18, February 15, and March 25. Call (440) 816-8036 to register. View the event flyer here.
Middle School Construction:
Future Strongsville Middle School teachers had a chance to walk through the new building on Monday, Dec 21. It is amazing how quickly progress is being made! The auditorium, cafeteria and gym will be spacious and aesthetically pleasing. The drywall in the classrooms are in the process of being hung and finished as well as lights beginning to be installed. The building is completely enclosed at this point.. Your new middle school is really beginning to take shape. Check out the construction with our Work Zone Camera!
