Join us as we offer students the chance to learn more about native Texas wildlife while enhancing general science concepts through interactive discussions and activities! Programs focus on unique animal traits and adaptations, predator-prey relationships, and general wildlife ecology. Post-program companion activities, publications, and Discovery Trunks are available.

SPOTLIGHT SESSIONS
The New Space Race
Presented by Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

The 2019 year could see as many as five missions to the Moon -- none of which are being sent by NASA. Nations like China and India - as well as private organizations from around the world - are leading the next generation of lunar exploration. This session will explore how they're getting there and what they hope to discover.
National Poetry Month
Presented by Old Jail Art Center

Celebrate National Poetry Month this April! Explore Acrostic, Haiku, and Shape poetry through an artistic investigation. This is an excellent opportunity to connect language arts and visual thinking strategies in your classroom. Using sensory details and descriptive wording, students will compose three poems inspired by works of art in the museum collection. Each student will create a tri-fold poetry booklet, complete with their own compositions and images from the museum collection.

Pi Day 2019 is March 14!
Celebrate Pi Day with an investigation of all things circular in American art. Explore the work of artists inspired by mathematics and understand the role of math in the preparation and execution of their works. Meet Carter Community Artist Arnoldo Hurtado and learn about his circular creations.

Saltwater Fish Hatcheries

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) saltwater fish hatchery. Learn how TPWD is able to "captive spawn" red drum, spotted seatrout, and southern flounder for restocking efforts in Texas coastal waters.

Virtual Zoology Lab: Sharks

Long bodies, sharp teeth, and a top predator? You guessed it -- sharks! Join us in the Virtual Shark Zoology Lab to discover how sharks move, what their teeth are like, and the parts that make up their bodies. Your students will practice important STEM process skills by observing and describing real live sharks, collecting data, and communicating what they learned from sharks in Texas State Aquarium habitats.
The Magic of Monarchs

For such a delicate insect, the Monarch butterfly leads an adventurous life! During spring and fall, millions of Monarchs will travel through Texas on their way to or from their overwintering sites in Mexico. Live caterpillars and adult Monarchs will be on hand during the program, allowing your students to see them up close and in detail. Join us as we discuss the basic needs, life cycle, adaptations, and migration patterns of the Monarch butterfly and learn how you can help conserve this unique creature.
