Additional Resource for At Home Learning for Students in Quarantine
The district recently adapted what was going to be an all remote academy, known as EVOLVE, to now be a library of on-demand learning for teachers to use with students when they are at-home as well as in the classroom. These lessons have been developed, and will continue to be developed, to follow the scope and sequence of our curriculum to ensure a continuous learning experience. With cold and flu season raising concerns about more students potentially in quarantine, Dr. Annetta Spychalski provided an update to the Board of Education on the availability of this additional at-home learning option. Student Focused Decision-Making
Earlier this month, Superintendent Dr. Ted Stec began what will be a year round initiative of meeting weekly with students at every school. The purpose of these informal meetings is to develop connections with students and use their thoughts and perspectives to further inform the decision making of the administration.
"It is important that we are grounded in their needs and perspectives. We can't lose sight of our student voices," Dr. Stec said while reflecting on his most recent meeting with a group of fifth graders at Manor Hill. "The students clearly are very excited to be in school. They spoke to the ease in which they are able to learn when a teacher is physically present to provide support, redirection and clarification. Collectively, all of the students also advocated for more hands-on learning opportunities."
As one student said, “I learn best when working with my hands and being able to engage with a project.”
Creating a Vision for Well-Being
Creating connections with the wider staff body
Providing opportunities to engage in meaningful dialogue
Establishing boundaries to support life/work balance
This will serve as the basis for how the team begins to formulate a vision for well being in the district for staff. The team will then expand its work to include students and staff, further defining what well-being looks like for all stakeholders. There are two additional meetings scheduled in November.
