Memorial News
June 2017
From Mr. Collier
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the month of June! It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of another school year! Soon we will be wishing our students and staff a fun and relaxing summer vacation.
I have been informed that Memorial School will be closed from Friday, June 23rd to Tuesday, July 4th. This is due to construction that will be taking place inside our school. I anticipate that we will be back in our offices on Wednesday, July 5th.
As always, Memorial School will be very busy over the summer housing several programs and camps. There is a lot of coordinating involved in making sure that once the camps/programs have ended, the cleaning crew can get the building ready for September.
The month of June is one of the busiest months of the year with field trips, field day, band concerts, move-up day, and parent conferences. Our students and staff know Memorial School’s expectations, and that learning never stops. The staff continues to educate our students and provide them with a learning experience that they will remember for years to come.
During the summer months, please sit with your child and continue to read books together. If you are traveling this summer, engage in conversations about what they are seeing and experiencing. Have your child(ren) apply their essential skills to real world applications. These are the best times in a child’s life when they can learn something from their parents.
Also, I would like to wish our fourth grade students the best of luck at Fieldstone Middle School. We will certainly miss their energy and excitement. I know that they will continue to be successful and do their best at Fieldstone.
Finally, I want to thank everyone for a wonderful school year. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Memorial School, we thank each of you for all of your continued support and we wish everyone a fun and relaxing summer vacation.
We’ll see you in September.
From the Montvale Police Department:
Please be advised that there is NO parking near the DPW, either in front or the side of the new firehouse construction. Due to the construction, this is the only available parking area for responding firemen to man trucks for an active call. Any vehicles that are parked in those areas will be subject to being towed!

Move-Up Day
On Wednesday, June 21st, Memorial Elementary School and Fieldstone Middle School will participate in a district-wide transition program called “Move-Up” Day. Our fourth grade students will spend the morning at Fieldstone, while the rest of the students will visit the next grade level. Move-Up Day at Memorial School will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Students will move as a class to an assigned room where they will listen to the next grade level’s expectations, curriculum, and special activities.
2017 -2018 Supply List
All grade level supply lists are posted on the Memorial School website. You can locate the lists on our website on the “Classroom Supply List” drop-down tab under the parents / students menu.
Student Dress Attire for School
Please remember that there is a district dress code that students must follow. These rules apply to all students at Memorial Elementary School:
- All shirts and blouses must cover midriff, back, sides, and all undergarments, including bra straps, at all times;
- See-through or mesh fabrics, spaghetti straps, straps that untie, or halter-tops may not be worn unless they are layered with a top, which itself follows the dress code;
- All trousers, pants, and shorts are not to be rolled at the waist, and must totally cover undergarments, including boxer shorts;
- Dresses, shorts, and skirts must be no shorter than three inches above the knee. Skirts must comply with the dress code regardless of whether tights/leggings are underneath;
- Clothing and footwear traditionally designed as undergarments or sleepwear are not permissible;
- Tight-fitting, or overly-loose clothing may not be worn in school;
- Clothing with obscene or profane language that references drugs, alcohol, tobacco, racism, or violence are not permissible;
- All hats, caps, and hoods, may not be worn in school;
- Footwear must be appropriate for safe participation in all types of school activities and be conducive to a positive learning environment (i.e. no slippers). Flip-flops are not permitted. Backless footwear such as clogs, mules, and sandals are not permissible.
We appreciate your assistance to ensure that our students make the proper clothing choices for school.

NJDOE School Report Feedback
Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Stakeholders:
Since the 2011-12 school year, New Jersey’s School Performance Reports have provided communities with information on school-wide academic achievement, demographics and school climate. The School Performance Reports were developed with, and are continually improved by, the feedback from stakeholders like you.
The New Jersey Department of Education is again encouraging your input on a statewide survey designed to improve the readability and usability of these reports.
Please access the brief online survey to describe if and how you use the reports, what data is most important to you when looking at school performance, and how the data can be presented in a usable, understandable manner.
The survey should take less than 10 minutes, and responses will not be tracked or identified individually.
We also invite you to check New Jersey’s School Performance Reports online to view the latest reports.
Thank you for your interest in helping New Jersey improve our School Performance Reports.

It has been an absolute joy caring for your children this school year. From bumped heads to boo-boos, each and every day is an adventure in the Memorial School health office. You’ll be amazed to know that the health office saw 6,500 visits throughout the 2016-2017 school year, we applied 3,000 band-aids to cuts and scrapes, tended to over 500 belly aches and cared for 200 lost teeth!!!
I wish you all a happy, healthy and safe summer. I look forward to seeing you in September.
