Playing cops and robbers…in Periscope!
I’m pretty sure we all remember the kid’s game cops and robbers, where the good guys had to catch the bad ones. Well, happens to be that nowadays this innocent game has turned into a reality with the new live streaming iOS and Android mobile app purchased by twitter in February of 2015. Periscope enables you to "go live" via your mobile device anytime and anywhere. The app enables you to become your own on the go broadcasting station by streaming video and audio to any viewers who join your broadcast.
Periscope is an app that truly takes advantage of its mobile platform incorporating notifications and location as well as social sharing on twitter, live discussions and feedback. Once a broadcast is over, others can watch a replay and even provide feedback within periscope for up to 24 hours.
Since its official launch on March 26, Periscope has been considered the next-level Twitter and it’s been on the public eye due to several controversial broadcasts that had been going all around the internet, this media scandal have only increased the popularity of Periscope among social media users and made using this app the new trend, beating by far its competitors Meerkat, Stream and Hangouts. But as all technology, it’s susceptible to be abused, and examples of this didn’t take long to surface.
We have some funny examples and some creepy ones, like 23 year old woman from Florida who live-streamed herself saying she was driving back home drunk, as a result of the video being streamed worldwide, numerous messages on the app and personal messages were sent to the driver asking her to stop before she got herself or someone else hurt. Thanks to the video and the viewer’s quick reaction, several calls to 911 were made and police was alerted.
One officer took the initiative to download the app and open a personal account, in an effort to locate the driver. Officers then were able to pinpoint landmarks in the area from the streaming video and located the driver. The woman was then prosecuted by law, and since this infamous episode on last October, the Florida Police department started to train their officers on how to use periscope and emerging technology, so that they’ll be ready when something else like this occurs.
Another almost unbelievable case is the two thugs from California, who live-streamed themselves for more than an hour while they were looking for a man they were supposed to kill, they even went as far as shooting in front of the camera to proof it was actually real. Or the latest and most shocking case that happened in Ohio on February 27, where a student live-streamed the actual rape of her friend on Periscope, letting it available to watch for thousands of viewers. Both the girl and the abuser were prosecuted by law and are now awaiting trial, where they could face up to 40 years in prison for aggravated assault.
Since twitter introduced periscope last spring, it has been used for more than 100 million broadcasts. Perhaps inevitably, people have also deployed it to showcase themselves breaking the law. Ironically, the platform’s guidelines ban explicit graphic content.
These are just three of thousands of similar cases where periscope has been the tool to catch felons worldwide. The most recent Twitter’s transparency report showed more than 5.000 solicitudes from authorities of dozens of countries to investigate periscope accounts that have been used for different kinds of criminal behaviors.
The majority of these services allow to have automatized filters that can suspend suspicious transmissions and also deactivate the accounts linked. But the control are far from perfect, the social intervention of the people who report these content is the determinant factor in order to stop this situation.
But just in the same way that the felons want to show off their bad doings in public, the streaming services like Periscope are been very useful for law agencies. This is been confirmed by the local authorities in Bangalore (India), where they are now inviting the citizens to report any criminal behavior witnessed through this app or any social media. They are also encouraging the society to live-stream felonies on the moment they occur, with millions of people connected at any time, Periscope could actually become the new emergency line operator.
It is very important that we take these advices into consideration; we never know when we might need it. And not only for security purposes, there are many ways we can all use Periscope. In business for example, can be use from insider videos to live Q&A sessions and beyond. Periscope allows businesses to be more accessible to customers and to create more personal relationships with them, and it’s especially good for small businesses because it allows an easy, fast and affordable way to communicate with customers in real-time.
Having said that, I would like to invite everyone to try this revolutionary app, whatever your purpose might be, or even out of curiosity I’m sure you’ll find it very entertaining.

Game Of Thrones Night
Game of Thrones started! But I guess everybody knew that, so we're gonna stick to how the bees of AdaptiveBee had a fun GOT night on Monday, after work of course! So nothing special happened there, besides the Red Woman appearance (sorry boys that your dreams turned into a nightmare :P) and the usual grey area jokes. John Snow is still dead but we've got a full season ahead to find out what's his deal, and we won't mid the long lasting discussion about the theories about his resurrection, though it may never happen (try to keep your hopes up girls).
If you want to be convinced of how fun it was, check out the pictures send by our awesome colleagues and let's do it some times again, cause you've got to admit GOT is more fun when watched together, and remember guys...the night is dark and full or terrors...

Personality Test
Since the dawn of time, we have tried to describe and categorize ourselves in many ways. From the four temperaments of the Ancient civilizations – sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic – to the latest advances in psychology, people have been restless in their pursuit of a good, reliable way to fit something as complex and fluid as human personality into a well-defined model. We are still some time away from being able to do that, although the current models account for the majority of our personality traits and can often predict with a high degree of confidence how we are likely to behave in specific circumstances.
Want to find out more about your personality? We recommend a great online test that is based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the Trait-based theories. Get a concrete, accurate description of who you are and why you do things the way you do, here.
