A Message From Our Principals
Dear families,
We have been busy volunteering, making music, reading, and so much more! We cannot believe we are approaching the end of 2022. As we look towards 2023, we are excited to update our goals and continue to learn together.
We hope you all enjoy time with family and friends this winter break! We look forward to seeing all of you in 2023!

Glacier Ridge Winter Reading Incentive
To encourage independent reading this winter season, the PTA is sponsoring a "We're Cocoa About Reading" incentive program. Students received a BINGO board from their homeroom teachers. Directions are on the back side of the board. All boards are due no later than January 6th. Happy Reading!
Holiday Share Bear
Thank you to all our families who generously donated to our Share Bear. Our Glacier Ridge Community is truly one big family and we are always humbled by your kindness.
Winter Coats
Mid December has come upon us so quickly! Students are required to wear a winter coat on the playground. Sweatshirts are not warm enough to keep our students warm so please remind them to wear a coat to school.
MTSS
After reviewing our intervention data, we are happy to report our students are showing incredible growth! In January, we will screen our students again to continue monitoring growth. We appreciate all your support at home to assist students in their learning journey.

Second Step
All students at Glacier Ridge are engaging in lessons around how to manage their emotions within the Second Step curriculum. Lessons are individualized based on students' levels of understanding and relevant for each grade level based on social emotional development.
Parents, ask your child what they have learned about empathy and kindness in their last few lessons to hear an update!
December Virtual Parenting Session with Jackie Rhew
District 47 held a virtual parenting session called “Screen Time and Use of Technology: Parenting in a Digital Era” via Zoom on December 7. The meeting was the first of a four-part parenting series being offered by the district in partnership with Jackie Rhew, licensed mental health clinician, author and speaker. See below for a link to the recording as well as highlights from a D47 middle school student tech survey given in November . (Note: The recording is currently being translated in Spanish and will be available after winter break.) The next virtual parenting session, “Building Resilience in our Youth” will be held via Zoom on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 7 p.m.

Guidelines for Absences
Cold and Winter Weather Preparedness
During these very cold days please be sure your child comes to school dressed with warm clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, boots, etc. Although it might not be warm enough to go outside every day, whenever we can, we do get the children outside for some fresh air. The District policies on cold weather are as follows: 15 degrees or warmer – unlimited time outdoors; 0 – 15 degrees - 20 minutes outdoors; Below 0 - remain indoors
An extra pair of socks to keep in cubbies and lockers is also a great idea for those extra wet snowy days.
Families Communicating Immediate Needs
As we launch the 2022-23 school year, we want to remind families that teachers, staff, and principals prioritize teaching, learning and engaging with students during the school day. They are not expected to monitor their email while school is in session. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for an email response. If your concern is urgent, please contact the school’s main office. Thank you!
