Happy Holidays from the Butler Staff!
Important Announcements
NAESP : Report to Parents -
Finding that perfect gift - always a challenge when anticipating the holidays for our growing and changing children. What was "them" one year - may now be someone a little "different". More and more, we are finding the material gifts seem less exciting to our children - and it is increasingly important to us to invest in experiences - hopefully things we can do as an entire family. Most importantly, we value being a gracious receiver - showing (and modeling) appreciation for that Greatest Dad Mini Flashlight or #1 Mom Charm - it's awesome to know whatever the gift - it was picked just for us. To learn more about guiding our children, read NAESP's Tips on Gift-Giving and Receiving.
"With the major holidays approaching, parents face two challenges: first, how to find the perfect presents for their children—the gifts that will be loved for years, not just hours—and perhaps more importantly, how to make sure their children are kind and grateful recipients, no matter what they get. Here are some ideas to try."

Winter Weather is Here! Students dress appropriately for RECESS
Please send your child to school with appropriate attire for the colder weather. Hats, gloves, and coats are important each day as we will go outside whenever the weather allows. In cases of extremely cold temperatures, our school uses a chart that helps us to anticipate 15-minutes-in/15-minutes-out -or- a full 30-minute indoor recess.
It also is extremely helpful if you label all items if ever anything is left behind - so we can return promptly. Butler has a LOST & FOUND with a large number of items collecting. They will be available - please see an office attendant.

The Artist's Palette - Butler Art News
Sixth graders finished a unit on Surrealism. They created strange, dream-like compositions by borrowing some of the strategies used by the surrealists like juxtaposition and dislocation. Did you know that the surrealists liked to play games to develop ideas for their artwork? Try it! Draw a squiggle. Now try to turn the squiggle into a strange and original drawing.
Guidance Department Review: Butler Food Drive
The Butler community supports families by donating food and personal items for the holiday season. The Giant in Chalfont donated the brown bags that students used to collect items in. The Butler 5th and 6th grade Student Council members along with CB South Key Club participants and volunteers from the Lansdale Home Dept sorted items into bins donated by Home Depot. We are thankful for our community support!
The Library Corner - Butler Library Updates
In the Butler Library, we are proud to showcase the various cultures that represent our diverse Butler community. Students take pride in learning more about their own heritage and those of their friends and neighbors. Some of the displays have included Hispanic Heritage Month, India, and the Middle East. In 2020, we will spotlight Asian countries, Black History Month, Native Americans, Russia, and the nations of Europe.

A Note From The Health Room
Cold and flu season is here - To help prevent illness and keep everyone feeling healthy. Here are some tips to remember: WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is the best defense against illness. Encourage your family to wash, especially before meals - using soap and warm water.

During winter people tend to drink less water. This leads to chapped lips. Please feel free to send in Chapstick that your child can leave in their desk. Cough drops and throat lozenges can also be sent to school and left in their desk. Explain to your child not to share with classmates and direct them as to how often they might have one.
Should you have any questions please contact the health room directly at 267-893-4265.
